The first premiere of the year is a track from the mind-blowing compilation coming soon on the super cool Montevideo-based label U’re Guay Records. Made with love and mate, the VA brings together almost forty (!) rising South American/Latino artists who delivered well-constructed and creative cuts encompassing many different electronic music genres. Expect Afro, House, Disco, Indie Dance, Techno, Breakbeat, and whatnot, seasoned with exotic spices and secret ingredients. Amid the roster, just to name a few, Alex Aguayo (FREEDL038), Ludviq, Fugaz, Cu Da Curuxa, Manu Barcelo (SXDNS344), Fernanda Arrau (SXDNS158), Umvral (FREEDL018/046), Panko (FREEDL051), and Imanol, the label owner himself.

Premiered here, the frenzied and electrifying contribution of the Brazilian duo Fugaz formed by Fael Cogo and Rica Terlone. With a sonority that “evokes the fantasy of Latin American nightlife when it meets the European sunset”, the lads have been slowly carving their way to stardom with solid performances and now ingenious productions. “Trupique”, the noun form of the verb “trupicar” which means “stumble”, is a theme destined to be played exclusively on packed and sweaty dance floors, preferably at peak time, due to its contagious and upbeat attitude. Brazil is definitely well-represented in this true showcase of young South American/Latino talents.

On the 30th of december we threw one last party at the iconic Noorderlicht building together with FEST before it got demolished. XXX hosted the secret stage which turned out just the way we imagine club nights at XXX. Good soundsystem, dark music, dark and packed dancefloor and (very, very) sweaty. Enjoy this recording which is a bit longer than planned - which we guess is a good thing.

Following on from the success of Jorkes's Sweet Dream EP on the influential Live At Robert Johnson label, a wealth of innovative electronic talents all serve up their own remixes of it including Paris Böhm, Alinka, ROTCIV, Hard Ton, and more.

German-born but Austria-based Jorkes runs the Freeride Millenium label with her muse, lover, and partner Daniel Rajcsanyi aka. Paris Böhm. Her provocative work centralizes gender, queer and egalitarian attitudes, and her Sweet Dreams EP showed the many different sides of her sound.

It is Radio8000 resident ParisBöhm who offers the first remix of 'CDEvaLo'. It's slow and sensuous, with intimate spoken word vocals and lithe synths while the bubbling melodies add color. Next up is Ukraine-born but Berlin-based Alinka, whose hard-hitting sounds have come on the likes of Rekids and Crosstown. Her version of 'Sweet Dream' is uplifting and glossy with busy arps rising up over prickly drums. Acid gurgles add extra texture to this classy floor filler. Freeride Millenium associates Snecker aka Berghain resident DJ nd_baumecker and musician, singer, songwriter, producer, performer, and DJ Snax tackle the same track. In their hands, it becomes a steamy house cut with floating synth motifs and crisp claps over a tantalizing beat that never stops building.

ROTCIV is another Freeride Millenium artist who has a cultured and colorful sound built on alternating arpeggios, automated synth melodies, and weird vocals. His remix of 'You Will Be Mine' is a zoned-out vocal disco chugger with a rugged bassline. The cosmic rays up top and silky arps help the whole track take off. Italian duo and accomplished disco queens Hard Ton are all about hi-nrg beats and screaming acid bass whenever they release on Freeride Millenium or the likes of Toy Tonics. They remix 'You Will Be Mine' in typically high-impact fashion as crashing hits and drums pump the party underneath astral synths and libidinous vocals. Experimental Berlin art trio New Hook then step up to rework 'Robot Lover' into something beautifully atmospheric and melancholic with thoughtful chords over nu-disco grooves. This package is completed with a final fantastic Форм Remix of 'CDEvaLo' that adds yet another perspective.

Dedicated to the twang of Roland’s silver baseline box with a varied string of artists: DVS1, Marko East & Jordi Chu (whose collaboration sparked the idea of a whole series), Like A Tim via Prins Thomas, Katerina and I:Cube.

The Parisian put it in a nutshell, too: „Although rinsed to death to the point of becoming a parody of itself, acid will last forever.“ Therefore, his Folie Noire is combining the original recipes with hypnotic European influences, while Marko and Jordi present a rough and direct 303-909 live jam, Prins Thomas puts his wickedest smile on Like A Tim’s Wonderline from 2005 and Katerina sets a lucid dream to sanguine music.

Finally, there is a rare and much desired musical outing by the unique DVS1. A direct ode to Chicago’s acid and beatdown styles and its Midwest companions, it is a heads-down-lights-down late night track made for driving up and down Lower Wacker Drive. Trippy trip artwork by the inimitable Gasius.

Trivia: If the piano is the bread of house music, the acid line is its butter!

Katerina - Meet Chu In My Dreams

Delicate Features is the moniker of composer Pavel Diakov and vocalist Radmila Nikogosian, a duo who have recently fled their native St Petersburg. Since making their debut in 2012, they have released music on this label as well as Cellar Tapes and Not Not Fun Records, exploring immersive soundscapes that invite listeners deep into their world. The events of the last year have led to the pair fleeing their homeland in search of a place that better represents their ideals and can provide the artist freedom they require. "The idea for this EP came to us during our escape from Russia," says the pair. "The last few years in Russia have been difficult. The government's pressure on freedom was felt more strongly so when the war was launched we urgently left Russia and went to Yerevan in Armenia since we could no longer stay in the aggressor country. The EP is a response to these terrible events that began in 2022 and are continuing to this day. It is an attempt to immediately reconsider what we have and make a change toward a peaceful future." The opener' Formula of Faith' is a cosmically minded cut with beautiful melodic patterns unfolding over warm, rubbery house beats. It's wistful but dynamic while 'Economic Outlook' is a dreamy and deep cut of synth-laden dub. Pads are smeared across a starry sky with all the soul of Detroit while the plump drums and buried bass add weight below. The fantastic 'Get Ready' is a quick and physical house track with razor-sharp hi-hats and more majestic pads. The fulsome groove is detailed with meaningful chords that turn thoughts inwards as the drums power on. The excellence continues on 'Melting Dream' which is cosy backroom music with emotional depth and persuasive drums. The myriad synth wisps and floating chords make it a heady affair that pairs romance with ruefulness. Last of all is the humid atmosphere and cavernous dub chamber of 'Speed Of An Immobility' which sounds both futuristic and timeless. It's a world of subtle pads and booming bass that has real energy and tension. This is stylish and well-crafted music that truly brings something fresh to the dance floor.

With a good few releases under his belt on labels such as Gene On Earth’s The Sound Of Limo, Gestalt Records, The Sound Of Steam or Craigie Knowes Bristol-based artist Boulderhead has built quite a formidable discography since 2020 and if pressing plants weren’t as busy as they are, the Welsh would have even more music of himself out there. Aside from releasing own music Henry James, Boulderhead’s real name, runs his own label Mint Tea, on which he’s been putting out VAs only so far, also including music from himself under his real name. However, since the label is a passion project according to Henry it does not follow a regular releasing schedule but now seems to be back with an EP and maybe more. In an interview with Torture the Artist Boulderhead speaks about the success of his latest release, the future of the label, how he likes his tea served and more. Additionally he’s mixed and compiled the latest edition of the art:cast series and it’s a deep-treat.

The imprint has been establishing a solid ground for the new Frankfurt sound since 2009. By featuring internationally acclaimed artists LARJ has been providing DJs and audiences with essential tunes in an extensive range of high-quality house music. Laid-back dance-floor awareness with a sense for particularity in sound is what might describe best most of the releases and artists.
