Yes, Davis Genuino aka DAVIS is back on Live At Robert Johnson. With his fourth release we might add - more likely a dream come true.
The São Paulo citizen who's part of the ODD queer warehouse-party collective is a central figure to the city's House and Techno scene, running the »In Their Feelings« and »ODDiscos« labels he has always released his music on other labels as well such as Innervisions, Polari Records or Permanent Vacation.
For »Lucid Dreams« Davis is lit indeed as the opening track »Lit« heavily suggests. »Lit« is sheer energy: A high-speed ode to happiness driven by a marvelous bass line and lots of dreamy vibes.
»Satellite 909« takes us on a trip to slightly darker galaxies, yet it keeps the upbeat and uplifting quality Davis started with. This satellite is transmitting with the typical and beautiful aggressiveness of a TR-909 drum machine - mission accomplished.
Title track »Lucid Dreams« is next: Both versions are characterized by a synth motif which spirals upwards and upwards, certainly driving all dancers crazy for the first half of the track - up until the point when Davis releases us poor dancers and listeners after a short break by building this amazing crescendo followed by commanding claps that lead us back to the floor again. Making their return with further innovative output this Spring is Bucharest based outfit, VARME, a label curated and cared for by, Paul Popa. Crafting the seventh release on the label is the incredibly talented beat maker, Maximo. The Uruguayan’s “XKP” EP meanders through low end leaning electro, and intelligently arranged spaced out techno, rough and ready for the club.  

Title track “XKP” moves in mechanical motions, chugging by as trippy beeps and bleeps make themselves known. Futuristic elements breathing life into the chunky drums. The A2 “Trip To the Moon” teeters on the fine line of techno, and trance, sitting comfortably between the two, blasting you with dusty nostalgia from records of the past but maintaining the modern twist Maximo consistently captures. 

On the flipside delving deeper into the mind of Maximo is “1945” is a sleek and crisp trip, a punchy kick and ice cold hi-hats drive the groove. The vocal sample used fits perfectly, transcending the listener as it continues to flash in and out. Closing 007 is “Sinrazón” a curious journey through shimmering pads and synths, teasing you down a path of mystery with the dark bassline that simmers throughout. 

Solid impressions from a label that continue to propel their distinguished energy, showing no signs of slowing down, continuing to become somewhat of a diggers paradise with their catalogue. VARME are not afraid to push music they believe in, never taking the restraints of genre on their shoulders. Whilst not making music Maximo is helping steer the ship at Deeper, a collective who share their musical vision in their native country of Uruguay.

Since 2014, Silas Schletterer has been part of the Bordello A Parigi family. Under his Machinegewehr guise, the Rotterdam artist released three show-stopping synth centred records. 2023 sees him put out his fourth, Life. Burbling arpeggios, a signature of his sound, are present for “Sans.” Clever inviting melodies, another feature of Schletterer’s style, mix beautifully with clean percussion and samples for a definite dancefloor favourite. The title work follows. Measured and meditative, “Life” employs a familiar sound palette with very different outcomes. The pulsations, the throb, of Machinegewehr is there, but there is a considered melancholy that brins a bittersweet balance to the piece. Steady kicks and vocal snippets introduce “Pills.” Shifting melodies, piano stabs, driving rhythms and spoken word come together to create a heady brew of sheer pleasure. Vocals are central in the closer. “Neurons” narrates a fantastical story of subdued sci-fi sorrows and wistful yearning, all to a silken synth-pop soundtrack. A welcome return from a multifaceted musician.

Giorgi Katsitadze, the mastermind behind SEÑ0R, hails from Georgia and is on a unique musical journey. He began his music exploration at the Khidi Academy in 2021 under the guidance of laduka ninua (OTHR), and since then, he's been charting his own course in the world of Italo disco, Dark disco, and EBM.

Giorgi is not just a DJ; he's a multi-instrumentalist who once dreamt of joining a band but soon realised his passion for playing multiple instruments simultaneously. His sets are characterised by driving rhythms, emotional melodies, and a captivating blend of italo body, disco, and EBM rhythms, making each performance an irresistible experience.

SEÑ0R's music is a bridge to connect with others, and Giorgi Katsitadze invites you on a melodic journey that transcends boundaries and resonates with the essence of sound.

Sound Du Jour is a rising and shining label expertly managed by creative UK-based producer Carlo Bragagnini aka La Mano (SXDNS270). Founded in 2021, the outlet has been adding some interesting content to its blue-ribbon roster and becoming a fine source for Indie Dance/Dark Disco gems. The next brick in its wall was made with love in Stockholm and soaked in cosmic aura by none other than Marcus Christiansen.

With solid recent appearances on vital imprints such as Mélopée, Maleante, Weirdos, Astrolead, and his very own Club Mackan, the skilled Swedish producer is undoubtedly one of the hottest acts of the moment and has been failing to disappoint when it comes to delivering high-quality fat and dark dance-floor-oriented beasts. For his debut on Sound Du Jour, Marcus cooked two of his specialities and invited Venice Arms and Neil Diablo for the remix duties. Neil couldn’t resist and decided to jump in with two versions of “Aurora”.

If the powerful original delivers its zero-gravity experience in 122 BPM, Neil’s Remix (and Bonus Beat) comes with a 126 frolic gait, and it is a feisty one with its groovy hi-hats and upbeat percussive elements. The space vibes are still there, of course, but now with more swing and hip-shaking attitude. Kudos!

As the name states Live at Robert Johnson is the associated label of the respected venue in Offenbach and incorporates what the club stands for. The imprint has been establishing a solid ground for the new Frankfurt sound since 2009. By featuring internationally acclaimed artists LARJ has been providing DJs and audiences with essential tunes in an extensive range of high-quality house music. Laid-back dance-floor awareness with a sense for particularity in sound is what might describe best most of the releases and artists.
