"For this opening mix of the Quadrasphere series I wanted to showcase a lot of my more downtempo, ambient and house’ier sounds, stuff you don’t hear from me too often.  I specifically selected tracks that were all under 100bpm. I wanted the mix to have nice lazy laid back feeling, with little unexpected moments and sounds to keep the listener interested. For almost 20 years, James Steer has consistently and unassumingly contributed to the after-hours soundtrack of Melbourne. Well respected within the underground Melbourne DJ community, James has built a reputation as a selector who deftly balances deep cuts with technical execution. James cut his teeth as one of the founders of the legendary Deep Chord Melbourne parties in the early noughties, showcasing the emerging deep minimal sounds of the time to an eager and receptive audience. The party started off as an intimate affair in the confines of the upstairs space of Pony Bar (later Boney), before finding a true home in the legendary basement space of the Mercat Cross. Since then, James has regularly graced the decks at some of Melbourne’s most iconic nightspots, equally adept at delivering funk and disco laden suppertime soundtracks as heaving excursions into deep dance floor dynamics. Drawing from a vast, genre-defying collection, James’ sets offer the listener/dancer a guided tour through the fundamentals of depth, always evolving and never stagnant, a glimpse into the now, with a respectful nod to what’s come before.

Today we want to share »Hauki«, the new mini-album by @sasse_blackheadstudios, with you. Finland's secret weapon in Berlin makes indeed a »Vorstoss In Die Tiefe« aka »foray into the depths« as the opener indicates. A foray to where the »Hauki« lives and catches his prey - what a lovely yet dangerous tune. »Book Of Alex« is more on the dreamy side of house music whereas »Manhattan« evokes car rides through a rainy New York night. But it doesn't take long until the »Sunrise In Mellenhof« - a very trippy sunrise that is. But Sasse wouldn't be Sasse if he wouldn't be able to throw in a downbeat tune like »JP-4« to surprise you, the loyal listener. Now all you gotta do is listen. Listen deep.
