Ñaupa Machu is the brainchild of musician Fernando Gallegos (of indigenous Caxcan-Chichimeca ancestry). Ñaupa Machu (pronounced nyow-pa ma-choo) literally means 'old primitive' in Quechua and refers to the 'Ancient Ones from a prehuman age' of Incan lore. The fusion between electronic and Native American instrumentation started in 2014 with the song 'Corazon Azteca' and has since been featured in performances for Italian theme-park Mirabilandia and for the opening of the 2017 independent film festival screened in theaters throughout Mexico City. With an extensive Native American instrument collection, Ñaupa Machu connects ancient indigenous sounds to modern electronic soundscapes set within a post-apocalyptic world. The idea being that after the collapse of the modern world tribes from the past once again resurface and the ancient gods will reign over mankind once more.
