> hi. i'm mari maurice rubio

q. is there a story behind the mix?

> this mix focuses a lot on guitar music. with the slow move back to live performances, i've found myself playing guitar and bass a lot more recently. i also often sit and improvise these long sprawling guitar loops that kind of go nowhere so, i interspersed several excerpts of those throughout. that practice is very therapeutic to me as is making mixes so I really sought to marry those things here. i also thought a lot about living rooms. that space in my home is sacred to me in many ways so i tried to capture the casual and relaxed atmosphere that this space makes me feel.

q. what's the best way enjoy your mix?

> ideally, sitting in a favorite room at night with windows open. preferably with an autumn breeze creeping in and a glass of wine or a negroni in hand. 

q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

> my partner and i have been gradually redoing our living room over the last year and there are so many things i love about it! my favorite thing is probably the modernist fuschia sofa we acquired. she found it online and it was just an instant room improver. it's huge and perfect for intimate hangs or larger parties. i often alternately work on it or fall asleep on it.

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

> i am gradually writing/recording songs/pieces for a new solo album or two.  i also have many collaborative projects in the works and am about to go on tour with my band alexalone. in general, i'm working on learning new food recipes, figuring out how to use my girlfriend's yamaha rx5, organizing my wardrobe, and how to make my dream paloma at home.
