Astrix is a unique phenomenon in the trance world, a leading DJ & producer, who came from the underground psychedelic scene, have been performing in the biggest festivals and venues, reached # 18 on the DJ Mag poll, and yet, chose to always stay true to the underground trance movement.

Avi Shmailov has been dividing his life is for more than a decade already between constant studio work and non-stop touring around the globe. Astrix broke into global consciousness in 2002 with his debut album ‘Eye to Eye’, defining him as a trance music anthems producer. In 2004, he released his second album ‘Artcore’, igniting fire all over the global trance scene and is considered by many as the perfecttrance album. The album’s effect was followed in 2005 by the impressive entry to the world's top 100 DJs list of the famous Dj Magazine, where he took the respectful climb to the 18th position in 2007. His third album ‘Red Means Distortion’ was released in 2010 and since then he continues to release many tracks on various compilations and digital EP’s to delighted fans, who according to his Facebook page are over 900,000 and going on strong

Grains of Sound is the progressive psy-trance to downtempo psychill to beatless ambient project from brothers Chris (Exeris) & Jason Sevanick, - dance, chill, or zone, they have you covered. If that wasn't enough, the brothers gained notoriety with their industrial act, Mindless Faith.

In 2017, Grains of Sound performed, among other festivals, in The Chill Dome at Ozora, the renowned global gathering. Their latest release is an EP on their own AlterCulture Records called "The Dome" which features five psychill and one beatless psybient tracks and attempts to share the amazing ambient experience of The Dome.

In 2007, Grains of Sound released their double-disc debut album "Rays of Life", comprised of Vol. 1 Down (downtempo) and Vol. 2 Under (ambient), on AlterCulture Records. Their follow up triple-disc album "Sine Language" (2010) received even greater acclaim for their exploration of different styles and energy levels. From atmospheric progressive psy-trance, to lush soundscapes and deep downtempo beats, to vast evolving layers which leave all beats behind, pure ambient intoxication. 

In 2012 Pharmacy Music released "Eager Fingers" and "Paradigm Bag" which showcased the duo's beautifully rich soundscapes driven by a progressive psychedelic trance core. So in 2013, Pharmacy asked Grains of Sound to remix "Beyond the Limit" by John "00" Fleming and Christopher Lawrence.

Grains of Sound has also had tracks featured on various compilations including most recently on BMSS Records. Grains of Sound  continues to perform in the US and Europe, past festival bookings include: Ozora (Hungary), New Healing (Germany), Life Celebration (Croatia), Goa Dupa (Poland), Zagoa (Morocco), and Gaian Mind (US).

Musical Influence : 

" I was born in 1987, grew up with a diverse taste for all things music and art in the 90s - my childhood was a time where I was heavily influenced by Heavy Metal music, particularly the deeper ends of it - BlackMetal/Thrash/DeathMetal etc. This was during the Metal Wave that hit the Maldives and music/rock concerts was held every now and then, which I grew up with. The time of collecting cassettes/CDs and album cover arts (during a time I had no access to internet) played a huge role in shaping my taste of imagination and creativity. 

Slowly, from the abyss of this dark, obscure styles of music, it was during the early 2000s, the shift happened, (with artists like The Prodigy, Infected Mushroom, etc) when I started exploring the electronic styles of music which was the greatest transformation for me, musically and creatively. Ultimately, this lead to the universe of psychedelic music. 


Combining my musical influences from this spectrum, my sound dwells in a cauldron of my own, a more personal craft that can be described as thought provoking, deeply perceptive, futuristic and visionary". 

On 2019, I featured my music on a major International Platform - the mighty record label JAIRA RECORDS run by PICK from ZENON RECORDS, which features big names in the darkprogressive psytrance scene.  I featured my track 'Alien Interrogation' on their VA Compilation "Young Man On Acid Vol. 3".
