Regarded upon his 2006 arrival as a promising beatmaker looming in the shadows of J Dilla, Madlib, waterfalls and Dabrye, Steven Ellison -- known as Flying Lotus -- nullified all comparisons only two years later with Los Angeles. On that album, his first of five for the Warp label, Ellison distilled a uniquely crisp, spasmodic, and heady sound with elements of hip-hop, avant-garde jazz, IDM, and dubstep. While the abovementioned producers fueled Ellison, he had also been excited as a youngster by the '90s West Coast rap classics that combined programming and live instrumentation. His sound continued to develop as he put his own twist on the approach, recording with a crop of jazz musicians including the indispensable likes of bassist Thundercat and strings master Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. This process began with the turbulent 2010 set Cosmogramma and peaked in terms of acclaim in 2014 with You're Dead!, which crashed the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and spawned the Kendrick Lamar collaboration "Never Catch Me," a Grammy nominee for Best Dance Recording. Ellison devoted a few years to various forms of film work and the operation of his revered Brainfeeder label, and returned in 2019 with Flamagra, his second consecutive album to top Billboard's Dance/Electronic chart.

Baratunde Thurston is the CEO and co-founder of Cultivated Wit and co-host of the podcast About Race. He wrote the New York Times bestseller How To Be Black and served for five years as director of digital for the satirical news outlet The Onion. When he’s not delivering talks at schools and gatherings such as SXSW and TED, he writes the monthly back page column for Fast Company and contributes to the MIT Media Lab as a director’s fellow. Baratunde has advised the Obama White House, has more than 10 years’ experience in standup comedy and more than 30 years’ experience being black.


Born in Helena, Arkansas June 27, 1989 and raised in West Helena as the youngest of 8 children, Justine got an early start in music. Her mother bought her a keyboard by the age of 3. It was at that age that she began to sing solos in church. By the age of 5, she was playing simple songs by ear, her favorite to play being "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers. As a child, she began singing in the church choir, in a Trio with her older sister and brother, and later the school choir and band, in which she briefly participated, playing instruments such as French Horn and Flute. Her uncle, Jack Patterson, who saw success as a Jazz Trumpeter and bodybuilder of Upstate New York in the 70's, would pass down his instruments, sending them to Arkansas. This ignited her interest and she picked up a little on the Trumpet. 

By her teen years, her involvement in choir increased and she was finally introduced to Sound Recording at the age of 17. Since her introduction, she has learned "just enough to get by" when it comes to Engineering and Production, but prefers to focus on her true passions of Songwriting, Recording and Performing her songs. She has a keen musical ear and hopes to remain independent while constantly increasing the quality of music she releases.

Justine has attended college to study Information Technology and Psychology prior to obtaining her Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, and is now pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree. She is the CEO of Justine Word Music Limited Company a production and publishing company established to manage her music operations and support up & coming artists in artist development and collaboration. She is also a Litigation Paralegal and Principal Small Business Consultant by day. She enjoys reading, traveling and volunteering in her community. She currently resides in Memphis, TN and has no children.

Tanisha Lynn Pyron aka (PRETTYFIRE) is an artist, creative photographer, storyteller, and media entrepreneur currently working on her MFA in acting and launching PRETTY FIRE as a media brand. The young artist considers herself to be a modern day griot focusing on telling stories that redefine and re-appropriate  "BLACK AMERICANA" highlighting and finding the beauty in the contradictions, pain and pride within "our stories" and thus hoping to discover and re-claim the beauty within her own. She has used her acting, poetry, dance and movement and now photography as modalities for making sure her creative vision and voice are seen, heard and felt.  In her own words Tanisha expresses, "To me the art and the artist are one. As I seek to unlock and express what is contained in my own heart and to heal and celebrate my own beauty and spirit. The art will speak to who it needs to. "
