"I wanted to create a journey of various textures, tempos and time signatures that can be listened to at home, and hopefully it's a bit more challenging than a typical DJ set. I used dub-mixing techniques at my studio so I got to use music that I wouldn't normally get to play and let them breathe a bit more instead of smashing tracks together on a DJ set-up. I've included music from Autechre, Aphex Twin, FSOL, Cocktail Party Effect, Isa Bassi, and Squarepusher as well as new music from KSP and Dot Product."

A true sonic renegade and avid explorer of bespoke sound creation, the 50th instalment of the Constructions Podcast series is helmed by the indelible Kamikaze Space Programme (Osiris Music, Mote Evolver, MORD, WNCL).

Carving out a prolific career with aliases such as Raiden, and Dot Product (with Adam Winchester) and running the pioneering Offkey, & Voodoo imprints, Christopher Jarman is an artist that has continuously evolved and refined his sound over the past two decades.

Employing dub-mixing techniques at his studio to create this mix, he traverses the far reaches of obscure electronica for an hour-long journey into sonic territories unknown.

The 7th of April saw Posh Isolation showcase some of its best-known talents on the Bassiani floor, with live performances from Croatian Amor, oqbqbo, Vanity Productions and Isak Hansen’s solo project Iron Sight. You might know the latter as the lead vocalist of The Empire Line, a furious mishmash of punk and techno coauthored by co-headliner Christian Stadsgaard and fellow Scandinavian Varg2TM. As Iron Sight, Hansen strips back the patina of studio produced electronics and unleashes a barrage of primordial noise, the sounds of a hair-raising garden of unearthly delights. Bassiani Podcast 173 is a recording of his live performance, a mix of brutal vocals, broken beats and raw emotional power. A ritual purge by the ‘voice made from barbed wire’.

There’s beauty in chaos and method to madness, that much is true to the work of this faceless duo from Sweden. SHXCXCHCXSH’s strain of anarchic noise has sparked conversations and head-spinning records ever since the two producers first swapped notes in 2009. For about a decade, Hannes Stenström and Emmanuel Pascal Moreno stayed out of the public eye as a matter of principle, stripping music to its very base, without the weight of prejudice and social context holding it back: ’we prefer to listen to music in the dark, preferably without knowing who made it, when or how’. From the chaos and their loyalty to instinct came the need to find new structures, and so their faceless records united around a theme or musical element. It was a gamble, but their sledgehammer destruction of techno conventions gave some of the most intriguing sounds of the 2010s. Sampling everything from podcasts to YouTube to field recordings, they’re always on the hunt for ‘in-between’, ‘unintentional’ details, a way to composite the strangest and most innovative techno out there. Their staggering releases on Avian pioneered new sounds (and track names), and successfully manufactured the type of music you could hear both at home and in clubs; and 2024 saw them resurrect their Rösten imprint with the release of DO, an infernal four-tracker made for the dancefloor. Bassiani Podcast 257 explores that format further, bringing their stabbing and psychedelic havoc to a crowd facing setting. Immersive and heavy-duty, this one’s an hour-long clip of their snake-pit percussions, mind-bending techno from the enigmatic Norrköping duo.

Chapter One, Decade is the newest sonic story in the library of Strange Therapy, written and told by Iron Sight. Five heart piercing personal pieces, jam-packed with loud passion.

'Years' opens the heavily creaking doors to a time traveling hallway. The symphonic string walls are decorated with distant memories. They shake and quake with every uttered word. Each striking syllable creates a crack in the ground. 'Hide' exploits those cracks for a full on excavation. Barrages of screeching metal pierce the porous earth while a violent voice blasts away large chunks of cold hard earth. The rocks are sent flying sky-high through the eerie atmosphere. 'Blades' sounds even more explosive, with its gut-punching drums. The voice now roars through the swarming synthetic sounds of poisonous hornets. Screaming and soaring, it channels horror in every square inch of air.

'Weekend' doesn't let anything escape the suffocating tight embrace between the powers of desperation, destruction and creation. Mechanical pumps draw from a pool of raw emotion, bubbling and overflowing. 'Echo' is the last dive and the final splash in this pool. Drops fly high, refracting the twilight of frequencies before they bounce off against natural forces. Falling back down as piano sounds they make ripples, causing a moving reflection.

After earlier appearances on the label, Dimitris Doukas, better known under his “Restive Plaggona” moniker, returns as his industrial oriented alias “Matriarchy Roots” on Strange Therapy. A highly engaging and confrontational project influenced by anti-patriarchy ideas and industrial music. “Changing Habits” will guide us among creepy atmospheres, sharp noises and destructive soundscapes made to question our way of thinking and our society's structures.

Where Is Your Toughness Now (No Forgiveness) finds the listener surrounded by a sense of dread and imminent doom, a collection of shrilling glimpses and brooding ambiances, distant broken memories made sound and sudden disturbances. At the end of the track added piano notes will increase the creepiness, preparing us for what will come next. More More More More (Courting Insanity) dwells in deep power electronics territory, and we will find ourselves in a bleak sea of chaos and madness. Obsessive rhythmic patterns and majestic effects impose a robust march, evoking a mechanical world inside our vicious mind. Just when you think this is it an eerie melody complete the scenario. Breasts In Sight (Demand A Choice) surprises with delicate ambient synth sounds and crystalline atmospheres in a droning course, reaching after a while a stomping movement with martial innuendos and distorted kick drums. The listener finds himself in a complex mix of emotions underlined by melancholic notes and ominous soundscapes, perhaps showing us personal facts from the author's life.  

Lifestyle (After The Rise Comes The Fall) is a rhythmic noise affair with cinematic elements and abrasive atmospheres with suspended parts and heavily manipulated vocals. A nightmarish voyage into anarchic assaults and controlled darkness reaching orchestral greatness. Monogamy Rules (Not Belonging To Anyone) uses suspense as a device showcasing broken sounds and shrilling lines, conjuring an alarming sonic world for us. The tension grows as the highly cinematic crescendo reaches an industrial climax with sci-fi qualities. Inner thoughts and ideas become a compulsive soundtrack to the demise of our preconceptions and in-built credos, leaving us with a sense of uneasiness.  The last track Masculine Norms (The Many Faces Of Manhood) drives the message home by the means of eerie soundscapes and cut-up sounds, giving us a crawling movement with sparse rhythms and soothing hidden melodies. Distant laments evoke a deeply disturbing portrait of struggle and mixed emotions.

Iron Sight (Isak Hansen) returns on Strange Therapy with the second chapter of his sonic story: The Broken Son. The Danish artist continues his saga with a very narrative work exploring his inner world and memories throughout a double cassette release. Expect grim atmospheres and industrial-tinged scenarios, in which noisescapes and distorted vocals deliver a sincere and powerful performance enriched by crunching rhythms. But this not all: eerie and evocative ambiances, as well as surprising elements coming from distant sonic dimensions, shows us another side of his soul and art in a work full of pathos.    

A Losers Game welcomes us with sparse rhythms and noisy vortexes underlined by aggressive vocals and mysterious atmospheres. A sense of dread and tension grows around us giving aural form to inner turmoil and unspoken words. Orchestral synth-lines enrich the track with an elation doomed to be cut short by the main theme. The Loser starts as an ambient piece full of evocative sounds and soothing atmospheres, a different affair showcasing emotional takes and grandiose choirs and arches. Then, destructive kick drums and malevolent vocals perturb our peace once again without forfeiting the previous motif in a climaxing communion of opposites.          

This Is Not Your House/The Family rewards us with a beautiful mantra full of elegance and orchestral undertones. A hidden crescendo reaches desperate shouts among celestial soundscapes fusing ethereal movements and sharp noises – giving once again body to a mental dimension made of contrasting feelings. I Had A Name explores droning effects in a rare atmosphere rich in majestic awe, adding horn sounds and mechanical glimpses. We reach a compulsive march made of war drums and demonic vocals in a slow but crushing manifestation of rage. The perfect balance between elements conjure a unique feeling in the listener.     

So Wrong dwells in dark ambient paranoia before engaging us with broken rhythms and sulfurous passages, building a techno-gothic pastiche with organ sounds. Iron Sight's craft shows itself by the means of corrosive bass sounds and roaring vocals, picturing a scenario made of fractured tension. A suffering mind finds here is apt description thanks to a well thought songwriting, as well as a beautiful passage during the final part of the number. Devil's Deadly Stare surprises us with soulful choirs akin to ethereal music, upon which a clean voice sings for us a crooning piece. This is a moment of pure bliss and a demonstration of Isak's love for music in various forms. The listener will maybe think to retro and folk elements, but the track finds strength in its own peculiarity.      

Cell employs sharp noises in a hypnotizing theme with droning repetitions and sparse sound, a representation of brooding feelings reaching sudden hard and distorted beats. Hoarse vocals guide us in a hellish but crawling mantra made of restrained aggression. Something is following us in its sonic corridors, but we never find a real conclusion to the alarming chase – the episode ends abruptly with a sense of suspense and dreamlike stupor, Gods Eyes ends our journey with elegant arpeggios and the usual sparse electronic elements. But if we think this is just a peaceful outro, we have to think again: stomping distortions and ogre-like vocals have their say during the slow crescendo. There is no happy ending at the end of the album, a sorrowful desperation mixed with rage is the final statement of a work of sonic art.

Rough Treatments part 2 is the follow-up compilation (2xCS) of Strange Therapy’s first release. Eleven artists lead this cruel treatment session, for those whose minds wander off into the weird too far and too often.

Oil Thief gives you a cold welcome with “Ellowen Deeowen” - a dense sound evoking sharp soundscapes full of dread. JFK mesmerizes us with “The Body (1st Version)”, providing crunchy synth sounds and distortions underlined by steady rhythms. Unhuman explores broken noise mantras in “Purge Vacuum”, assaulting everybody with not user-friendly noisescapes. Tomohiko Sagae follows up with “Iron Oxide” and showcases his personal brand of mechanical rhythmic industrial with a stomping heart, checking if you are still alive. Never Worse presents “The Bleakness” with its cinematic factory-like sounds, evoking a world dominated by machines. Shrouds delivers a dense sonic experience in “Death, The Only Equalizer”, by employing loud loops and ritualistic motifs. Closing the first cassette is Mesmer Trial and his track “Fused”, which guides us in a dark experience dwelling in malevolent ambiances and droning passages.

The second cassette starts off with O/H, where they return to rhythmic-noise soundscapes with “Last Days”, which has an obsessive nature underlined by shrilling bass-lines. Donna Haringwey gives us “Invite”, an exercise in various rhythmic elements fused with punk-like vocals and riffing distortions. A Brutal Game follows suit with “Rehearsals 2018-2020” and its disquieting course based on reverbs and grinding sounds. Matriarchy Roots delivers the final treatment with “Stereotypes” and its almost celestial atmospheres ready to burst into slow and evocative passages with a dream-like quality, sending you to a last inward voyage of the soul.

Prague collective Wrong is proud to present first solo release in their catalogue by Prague-based French producer Léo Hivert aka The Undertaker's Tapes. His debut album On the Last Day on Area Z label followed by several remixes and contributions to various compilations made him one of the most promising upcoming producer within the EBM and industrial scene. Autolysis is the first in planned series of recordings exploring theme of body and decay. It serves as the opening act focusing on cellular auto-destruction which comes as a mirror to the introspectional work that we have been put through during these doomed times. The Undertaker’s Tapes brings here doze of destruction in diverse approaches: from angry industrial through EBM dance-floor killers to noisy melancholia. 6 original tracks are accompanied by ritualistic heavy collaboration with French producer Incendie and four remixes delivered by EBM machinery Mind Matter, rising Czech techno madman C4AT and two members of Wrong collective HYΛEN and Trauma.
