Edmund's mother would drive sometimes for days. Never going anywhere, just somewhere. Somewhere that wasn't there. Another burned out sign to a cheap motel; deep in the humid swamps of the bitter south. A time to stop and rest for a day, maybe two. This life inside her was wanting to see the world.
 Flames and retribution and shame, an archaic remnant to what wanted her to speak no more. Edmund was to be born that day in the swamps.  That day when the cicadas roared like a chorus through sweat and fire. The traveler was born at 3:33 pm

Terry somewhere in the chancellery, nonchalantly flipping a coin, with something nasty on one side and a worn out memory on the other. Offering some hope? Maybe not...
Me? Well, I'm in the toilet, with a grumbling bass whilst spouting a slightly sinister 'Andrews Sisters' thing :-)

Based on the 14th century 2 part Ballade, Je ne cuit pas, by Guillaume de Machaut.  
The composition is written in a contemporary style using the technique of hoquet.

The term "hoquet" is a French word (in Old French also hocquet, hoket, or ocquet) meaning "a shock, sudden interruption, hitch, or hiccup".  Although the term is in reference to the secular music of the 13th and 14th centuries in France, the technique, under other names, could be heard in different types of music across the world as early as the 11th century.  Hoquet is the rhythmic linear technique using the alternation of notes, pitches, or chords.  In medieval practice of hocket, a single melody is shared between two (or occasionally more) voices or instruments such that alternately one voice sounds while the other rests.  Hoquet is also used in Indonesian Gamelan music, African music, Classical music, Jazz and popular music.
