ETCH steps up to helm the next episode of the "LMD Locked On" podcast series. A three hour mix built around musical influences from the Brighton based beat scientist.

Few words about the mix by ETCH:

"I guess with a lot of studio mixes and even live i'm known for being eclectic and jumping tempos back and forth quite fast - this mix being long form allowed me to progress things a lot more in a story-telling style manner which is exactly how each track on the record plays out - I also play a lot of old house tracks because despite not being an up front influence on the record as a whole they were actually largely what I was listening to while I was writing the record, I think those particular tracks catch a timeless groove that can move seamlessly through the other genres that are in the mix and within the record, much like how people say it all started with the blues, I feel with modern electronic music it started with those house records, particularly the ones that caught a peculiar groove; I actually had a list of 300 tracks i wanted to fit into the mix and I was fully going to try and do 32 bars, 32 bars, 32 bars, 32 bars etc... but I decided to take it slow"

After the bold statement of the triple-vinyl Studio r° 003 release that saw Fred P, Mike Parker, DJ Spider and more alongside newer artists, the label returns with a single that continues the mission of the Berlin-based broadcast and record label project. Dealing in the most adventurous and heartfelt corners of contemporary house and techno, Studio r° 004 once again pairs established artists with unsung talent.
XDB has built a thoroughly respected reputation over the past ten years without resorting to releasing excessive amounts of music. That he has been signed to labels as respected as Echocord, Dolly, Sistrum and Story says it all, and so he contributes the slow-simmering acid cut “Basscored” to this compilation with its sharp drum jack and subtly rising intensity.
youANDme is a collaboration between Daniel Ströter and Martin Müller, having previously appeared on Snork Enterprises, Cocoon and collaborated with the likes of Mark Broom. On “Daemon” the pair bring the drums in heavy for a heads down, immersive house cut that matches club-ready functionality with swooping textures that pulse with a metallic energy.
Qindek has been rising to prominence through releases on Wavereform and Wolfskuil. The Dutch artist equally has past form on labels such as Savoir and Manual Music under his Thomas Laurén alias, but in this current guise he immerses himself in the warm chords of dub techno. “Like A Groove With A Bang” keeps the energy levels up with a forthright tempo and undulating dynamics that make for a track that thrills as much as it satisfies.
From his roots on Pastamusik through to breakthrough releases on Ornaments, two albums and more recent outings on Rotary Cocktails, The Analog Roland Orchestra has gone from strength to strength with his one man band of drum machines and synths. Bringing an especially aquatic mood to this record, he closes out the B-side with the hypnotic throb of “VX600”, channeling the spirit of classic dubwise electronic music in a manner that anything but basic.
Across the four tracks the Studio r° approach is further refined, balancing the desire for solid rhythmic constructions with a more introspective, soul-stirring musical message that makes for the most timeless, meaningful electronic music.

Though it would be presumptuous to predict a *Track of Summer 2016* in the modest month of April – sod that, we're going to do it anyway. After a short while finely tuning the sample-based house and disco ReGraded sub-label, Midland reopens the doors to his original Graded imprint with a release that's well worth shouting about. Catalogue number #003 comes in the form of three-track Blush EP, with an opening title track that highlighted Midland's own BR set at Dekmantel last summer. A token example of Midland's ability to create authentic, instantly catchy dance music – with a hook that's guaranteed to woo hearts across many dancefloors worldwide.

Stepping up to helm the first episode we have the man behind LMD, Shaun Soomro. He provides a DJ Mix titled "1000 Licks" with a focus on groove and layering with tracks past, present, unreleased & forthcoming.

LMD Locked On 001 - "1000 Licks" by Shaun Soomro

The myth, the legend, Stephan Laubner aka STL steps up with a very rare mix for the Lick My Deck "Locked On" podcast series, titled "Fragments Of Risk & Fun".

Mixing everything from computer adds, film sountracks, disco, electro, classical, funk, dub, house, techno and radio/field recordings. We can honestly say this is one of the most creative mixes we have heard in a long time.

 

A few words from STL regarding the mix:

 

The mix was recorded with 2 turnatables a CD player and my field recorder.

 

Various sounds have been mixed together as I was aiming to make a mix from a variety of sources. I have added things like a old commodre add, as well as recorded radio stuff, various selections from my vinyls, some music and sounds from my CD"s, all very diverse.

 

A 1 hour mix is basically a very short time to put much emotion into, but on the other hand it was really challenging and like the title suggests, it includes risks, resulting in much fun. Since I am not really a DJ (more a production head) it may include not the newest records, and also the mix is not very constant and stable probably - but for me very enjoyable, honest and possible to revive the mood and energy of that recorded hour.

LMD Locked On 002 - "Fragments Of Risk & Fun" by STL

Jean Patrice Remillard aka Pheek steps up for the next episode of the Lick My Deck Locked On podcast series titled "Emerge".

Pheek is one of the very first artists to release on LMD with his fantastic Supra Opto Cassis EP. Thomas Melchior chose one of the tracks of that EP (Blue Blue So Electric Blue) to be on his acclaimed 10 years"s of Circoloco at DC10 mix CD.

Pheek has been making experimental electronic music for many years and has built a reputation not just as a exceptional producer but as a talented mastering engineer who mastered Ion Ludwig's stunning album Free K. Loudwiggle.

This 2 hour composition titled "Emerge" was recorded Live in Copenhagen. It's a journey through: lush sounds, twisted melodies & unconformed Pheek grooves.

Marina "Dr" Rubinstein comes at her DJing from the perspective of the dancer. She grew up loving to get down to techno back home in Israeli (though she is Russian born and Berlin based) and will always be a hardcore raver at heart. It means her sets are defined by a certain energetic dynamism that finds her calling on acid, 90s rave and pumping techno to get the floor sweating. She does so at key places like ://about blank and Berghain, and this summer will play Dekmantel Festival. 

Her adventurous spirit and quest for that “special feeling” on the dance floor characterises her mix for us. It is seventy minutes of grooves designed to make you move, from rugged techno to slippery electro via pulsing kick drums that burrow deep into the night. Contrasting dark with light, wild acid with more streamlined sounds and overtly physical tracks with those that are more cerebral, it makes for an arresting trip filled with special dance floor moments.
