Hug Records is a social music label based in a formerly abandoned village in the Serra da Estrela Mountain range in Portugal. We are currently building up the infrastructure for a music residency program here and will launch in 2023. With our music we provide pleasure hugs to your ears and financial hugs to social projects.

As always we introduce the person behind the music with three questions,
in this case Ben:

1) What is your favorite book to read? 
Tortilla Curtain by TC Boyle. Not only because it carries the favourite
food of my ancestors from Central America in the title but also
describes the issues immigrants are facing coming into an
industrialized, over-organised and materially wealthy society. Also a
reflection of my own personal story.

2)  If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? Magic hugs
which turn haters into lovers, war lords into cuddle machines and
jealous folks into caring & supporting persons. 

3) What's the longest you've gone without sleep (and why)?  Some 60
hours on one of the first super enthusiastic weekends dancing in Berlin
- right from work on Friday to the bars and then 1 full 24h at Sisyphos.
Was just so happy to be alive at that time in that place. Just couldn’t
stop dancing with a big smile on my face.

Although Stavroz & Rival Consoles find themselves quite far apart sound-wise, they are closer than you'd expect. These distant cousins share a love for a cinematic approach to electronic music. It makes for compelling journeys and tripped out adventures on opposite sides of the spectrum of electronic music. Clearly it was a no-brainer for Stavroz and Moodfamily to reach out to the Leicester-born, British native and his ambient, shoegazey yet stunningly powerful atmospheres. 
While deliberately ignoring the main element of Stavroz's "In Mindibu", Rival Consoles manages to raise the tension in classic fashion. Thunderous pads drenched in nostalgia. Weeping synths gracefully drape hasty drums patterns. A masterclass in colourful frequencies and painful bliss.

✍️ The human gift of memory is a fascinating and practical tool. It enables us to relive past events, situations and encounters. Beautiful moments with loved ones, journeys to special places or profound conversations can be preserved forever. However, this ability can also have a disadvantage effect on people. 
We have no control over what is imprinted on our memory. Therefore, it is advisable to clean up and update this "hard drive" from time to time. Working through stressful memories moves us forward as human and keeps our store of memories clean too. 

🎵 The Of Memory EP from bīsu contains two Tracks. The title track is a mellow downsnappy banger that exudes an atmosphere of enjoyment. A vocal wispers the audience into a deep relaxation mode. 
„Jonathan“, the second song, is a feature and was made together with dalié. Smooth synths in form of exciting melody patterns interact with her unique voice and create an enthusiastic feeling of joy. Embedded in rhythmic percussion, the result is a coherent overall picture that will stay in Memory, just like the entire EP.

What happens when you blend Kahl, Kaemena, Brigade, some modular synthesis and a city brimming with electronic music and innovation? You guessed it (or not), out comes: flieder - our favourite Berlin trio. 

After already having blessed us with an EP in the previous year, flieder is back on board and is setting the stage for their upcoming EP on Moodfamily in April with their first single. Title track “Agenda” shows their progress into a more reduced and intimate aesthetic. This time, more clearly assisted by modular synthesis, they move towards a cozier, stripped back and more natural sound. All we can do is cheer from the side lines. It’s a pleasure to have you back, fellows. We’re excited to see what follows next!
