Astronox Festival in Texas, October 2022. A rare thing occurred - I got to play a two-hour closing set at the end of the insanely inspiring lineup of Saturday night, before a morning sound break. There are some major wiggles in this set, of the crunchy/glitchy variety, in keeping with the flow for the night. Ending with some gentle touches, like a sonic hug.

Grounding

Love. What does it mean to you? There is a vast spectrum of how we experience love, perceive it, feel it, express it, and create it. During the month of February, I played two sets right around Valentine’s Day that had me organizing all my “love music.” I started to think about  all that love means to me. I noticed that in recent years, I’ve found myself searching for love in the form of a romantic relationship. Searching for a person who wants to receive my love and travel with me on this journey of life. With all that has passed, I’ve often thought, what can I do differently, what can I do better, what is it about me that is too much or not enough? In the midst of my reflections, I happened to come across the following quote by feminist writer, teacher, activist, and scholar Bell Hooks. She says, “I think that part of what a culture of domination has done is raise that romantic relationship up as the single most important bond, when of course the single most important bond is that of community.” It resonated with me so profoundly that I read it out while introducing myself before one of my sets. It made me more cognizant of the fact that the unending support of my community is what has carried me through the empty valleys of the lows. All that I am, all that I have, all that I can be, is rooted in community. I’m so grateful for all of you who are part of my life and continue to invest your time and energy into our relationship. It has been a hard last 6 months. With work causing me to retreat from my usual relationships, I have felt like an absent friend to many. A friend who hasn’t shown up isn’t who I want to be, and it hasn’t felt good. Nevertheless, I feel you. I get your messages of support. I know you are there for me even when I’m not able to be there for you, and that is so appreciated. While my community has carried me through my lows, you’ve also lifted me up to my highest highs. The collective joy we create on the dance floor is absolutely incredible. Bell Hooks writes in All About Love: New Visions, “whether we learn how to love ourselves and others will depend on the presence of a loving environment. Self-love cannot flourish in isolation,” and in a separate passage, “rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” I wouldn't know how to love all parts of myself and others if it wasn’t for the loving environment that I am supported by. This community propels me to love more, to be love, and to embody it in my everyday interactions. I heal when I am with you. This last quote by Hooks is a reminder of how I can continue to grow my practice of love in my life and expand my notion of community. “We can begin the process of making community wherever we are. We can begin by sharing a smile, a warm greeting, a bit of conversation; by doing a kind deed or by acknowledging kindness offered to us. Doing this, we engage in love practice [... and] we lay the foundation for the building of community with strangers. The love we make in community stays with us wherever we go. With this knowledge as our guide, we make any place we go, a place where we return to love.” This mix is a dedication to you, my community. My best friends. My family. My loves. Recorded live at the Asheville Movement Collective weekly Friday Night Dance on June 7, 2024.

This mix was created with a deep reverence to the Blue Ridge, Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and the music and culture that has been birthed and cultivated there over time.

With awareness that the folk songs of the ancestors in Ireland and Scotland inspired new music such as bluegrass to be cultivated in these very Appalachian Mountains.

I wanted to include this music in the dance set in gratitude. This set is full of electronic versions the originals and remixes of more modern hip hop and house. This remixed series of songs was blended with my personal prayers to these lands. 

My dad played the banjo and I have always been inspired by Appalachian bluegrass and the twang of banjo picking.

I now release this set, as not only was it one of my personal favorite mixes, though also now, at a time when the devastating floods due to Hurricane Helene have affected the entire Asheville and North Carolina communities. This set goes out as a prayer to all those affected as support and healing. 

I didn't post this earlier as there were a couple of DJ imperfections that I didn't like as an artist, so please excuse a couple of messy parts. Hopefully, you won't notice, or perhaps it's not too bad so you can ignore it and enjoy it anyway.

Honoring the musicians and producers I included such as Human Experience, Rising Appalachia, Tropo, and a remix of Petey Pablo's Raise Up.

This curation came together in two days and invites the dancer to remember their dreams, shake up ones conditioning, and release self limiting beliefs that block the fulfilment of the heart and souls deepest desires. On this quest, what feels alive in your being? Where can you track this aliveness in your body? 

I thought I had a mix ready to go for this one. When I returned to it, I was inspired by fall, Fiji, ceremony and myself two months later, to take it in a whole new direction. Let me know how it lands for you if you feel called?

Once a dancer, now mixing a wide spectrum of house beats to take you on a heart pumping, hips grooving, head bobbing, booty shake'n and soul awakening odyssey, here is Dj Leave No Trace (LNT). One Thanksgiving at Mackenzie Beach, LNT was assigned to her, here at home in the Pacific Northwest out of stoke for her musical curations. One can expect a groovy ride with her mash up of bass, drum & bass, bass house, organic house, deep house, and melodic tech house. The one trace she leaves, is a spark in your dancing soul. LNT has played for Woodstove festival, fundraising events, 420 dance jam, Play-full events, and HOWL an all ladies full moon gathering.  As one of six djs, with Alchemy ecstatic dance, she channels what's inspiring her personal path of alchemy through her careful curations. She raises her bar with every set and finds this personal challenge, well received on the dance floor.
