quintessentials 56: 4004 - sense of departure ep

Some more Mexican music on Quintessentials! This time from long time buddy 4004, another driving force in Mexico and already an established producer with releases on labels like Freerange, Faces, Vicario Ltd or Quintessentials. Mostly doing stuff on his own, Quintessentials 56 features a great collab track with Stuttgart’s Stylus Heat (currently working as Blunted Monks on Philpot). I’m not sure if we find 4004 reasons to like you Gerardo, but there are definitely two: you’re a cool fella and we love your music - simple as that!

We're back again with our buddies @toytonics and next up on the roster is Frenchman @mangabey-1 with his wobbly synth funk track 'Purple Gutter'. As you'd expect with a TT release the beats are tight, deep and full to the brim with groove. The synths are rich, funky & have just the right amount of modulation. File this baby in the ever growing folder of set staples from the unstoppable German label.

The man that is on an unstoppable roll this year @felipe-gordon has a new stellar EP out soon on @flatwhiterecords. We've got the bomb that is 'Groove 37' to show you and I think its featured in every set we've played since we got hold of it. Exquisite MPC beats and percussion chops teamed up with a jazz loop to die for. But its when that rolling deep bassline kicks in that it solidifies itself into a stone cold hit.

PREMIERE: Schegg - Feed The Cat [Boutade Musique]

When Fouk & Glenn Astro remix a new artist you know what the vibe is: Dirty DIY house with a heavy funk vibe. 
Mangabey is the new kid on the Toy Tonics family and he is a master of this style. He lives in Lyon/ France (and is a good friend of Folamour who remixed his first EP on Toy Tonics some months ago). 
But Mangabey takes the whole new Funk-House sound to another level. While many of his colleagues work with samples, Mangabey studied Jazz piano and collects vintage synths. And so he plays most of the stuff himself and bring in a lot of personality.
His works could remind the vibe of New York Soul House from the 1990ies or the sounds from the West London scene from 20 years ago, but definitely he adds a modern, edgy touch to it.

Mangabey aka Jose Fehner is an interesting personality: Born in the south of France in a family of traveling artists. As a kid he has been living on a boat and in caravans, traveling France and Africa with a wild theater collective directed by his parents who are actors. Later he went to music university and now finally, by age of 22, he lives in Lyon. Lyon is becoming France’ second music town.  The town that has the most vibrant club and producer scene right now. So, yes:  There is a lot to come from there… a lot from Mangabey.

Starting of peaceful vibes, Knuckle G track is a relaxing yet thrilling groover. Spreading this feeling, B.K Mik delivers a slow-alike groove on a solid break beat. With a bunch of aerial vocals covering a steady bassline, Le Hutin dives into deeper waves.

Hotmood's Coffy definetively comes up with a tasteful disco to house dynamic tune. Thirsty Guys follows by with a powerful dancefloor tool, a bumpy bassline supporting a heavy sampling work. The release close on this delightful heavy dub of Vanderkraft, at the crossroads of rap energy and loud bigroom approach.
