Citrus Fever Dream is a true synergy between the Layering and Vibration Mastery of Emancipator, and the neo-soul/ chillhop instrumentalism of Cloudchord. The duo ended up getting psychedelic in Oregon one weekend, and Citrus fever Dream embodies those experiences they had.

This ep sums up to me what Cloudchord sounds like through the "Emancipator music filter." A lot of the core musical ideas are clearly from the Cloudchord neo-soul/ chillhop paradigm, but then Emancipator ran all these ideas through his "downtempo headnodic electronica layer prism," which is an area where I consider him a true master. - Cloudchord

Citrus Fever Dream is a tangy collection of songs soaked in lap steel guitar, flute, percussion, and exotic sounds. Cloudchord and I recorded most of this EP over a few days in Oregon, taking a laidback and open minded approach that is reflected in the music, and ultimately features our fortes of guitar and layered production. Emancipator returns to continue his collaborative hot streak with the first single taken from a forthcoming album project with long-time collaborator, label-mate, and member of his live band – Lapa. 

“Souldia” is another interesting sonic turn for the musicians as they cast their talents to the outer realms of dance music and incorporate deep and tech house influences into an expansive and winding arrangement. 

The track starts with a calm feeling of mystery and anticipation that unfolds into a journey of non-stop forward motion, riding a razor's edge of lightness and darkness along the way before culminating in an unexpected orchestral disco peak section, fitting of Studio 54, where Lapa’s violin influences are on full display. 

This was one of the first tracks to be completed from the new album and acts as a calling card for the full length – showcasing a new and entirely open composition style where any instrument or influence is brought in to the fold and utilised in new and unexpected ways. 

It’s an experimental take on the roots of electronic music that sees the duo exploring uncharted musical territories more akin to DJ mixes than any of their previous material yet remaining accessible by the familiar anchor of four-on-the-floor beats.

Based around John Frusciante’s sizzling guitar instrumental “Untitled #6” and featuring a sample of Allyson Krauss’ “Down to the River to Pray,” this remix has a wild and free sound that attempts to capture the feeling of a hot summer day at the river - sunburn, nettle stings and all.

This collaboration was originally started in Dirtwire's studio in Oakland, CA, a sprawling complex filled to the brim with every acoustic, and most electronic, instruments one could imagine. After an initial recording session, the track was finished long distance, navigating around each group's touring schedules. Overall the track is a perfect meld of Dirtwire's southwest inspired instrumentation, Plantrae's northwest inspired beats, and ultimately one more step towards both groups aspiration of merging instrumental and electronic music.
