Originally written in May 2016, Divisions is a starkly sectional piece for flute, bass clarinet, violin and piano wherein these instruments explore the colors found in constantly expanding intervallic distances between pitches. The players traverse easily and lyrically through minor 2nds, major 2nds, minor 3rds, and major 3rds, all of which take exactly one octave to repeat. Eventually, there is some instability found in the multi-octave perfect 4th collection which leads to a twisted waltz, fated to fall apart by the perfect 5ths which require more octaves than are available on the piano.

Divisions was performed on May 20th, 2017 at the Anne E. Pitzer Center in Davis, CA. An enormous thank you is owed to Mia Cylinder (flute), Sydney Bonnell (bass clarinet), Addie Camsuzou (violin), and Aida Shirazi (piano).
