Rastrillos surge en la Ciudad de Mèxico en el año de 1989, en medio de una sociedad en búsqueda de la democracia. En ese contexto no es casual que los integrantes de la banda encontraran en el reggae no sólo a un gnero musical que les permiti´ó expresar su sentir y pensar, sino a un movimiento cultural de resistencia contra la pérdida de las raíces y la cultura de los pueblos; sonidos y palabras que invitan a la reflexión y a la construcción de una comunidad más sensible a los problemas que la rodean.
 
La actual música de Los Rastrillos refleja el tiempo transcurrido desde sus inicios, la experiencia de haber tocado en diferentes espacios del paìs y compartido escenarios tanto con grupos representativos de la escena nacional como de la internacional, le ha permitido a la banda asimilar todo tipo de influencias musicales, conservando al mismo tiempo su visiòn del reggae como un instrumento de comunicación.
 
Entre las producciones discográficas mas recientes en los últimos años se encuentran "Códigos del Alma", "Se acabo el reve" y "En Vivo, Tuor Canadá 2007" siendo este último el mas reciente y que actualmente se encuentran promocionando.
 
Rastrillos no ha perdido el ánimo. Todavía cree. Cuando llega la realidad con su mensaje de alinearse o rendirse, la banda reguesera opta por la resistencia. Continúan en la lucha con lo único que queda cuando el coproductor huye, se cancela la gira al extranjero, y el productor se va de vacaciones y no contesta el teléfono, mientras se acumulan las deudas y no paran de llegar los avisos de corte de servicios: el humor.
