Red Richards & Onetram - Decoded

Russian artist, Maksim Dark, tail-ends 2016 with his second SCI+TEC outing. Having already impressed label boss Dubfire with his fearless brand of groove-laden techno, the young producer, welcomed to the label family with his February release of ‘Acidstage,' returns with his new ‘Montain’ EP. 

Opener ‘Look Back’ instantly electrifies with its growling bassline, pounding Timpani’s and clapping crescendo, to create a devastating crowd pleaser that is eyes-forward, at all times. 

Bassline to the fore again on the title track as its throbbing waves intensify and then drop away, only to regroup and come again. Garnished by an array of synth chords, melodic keys and wild sounds and fx, it also features another of Maksim’s own demonic vocal lines. 

Final cut ‘Slaphappy’ segues seamlessly with its predecessor. Narrated and powered again by the chilling vocals and guttural pulse of its bassline.

Two of house and techno’s most-established talents collaborate on their debut release together, as Hot Creations head Jamie Jones teams up with Mood Records boss Nicole Moudaber on Pepper Shake.

Short, sweet and with no filler involved, Pepper Shake gets us underway swiftly, and the name certainly does the track justice. Up-tempo hats whistle beside a driving bassline, before a female vocal reels in and out. The styles of both artists are present throughout, with Jamie’s signature groove providing the foundation and Nicole’s deeper techno style coming through in the synths. Bubble Ride completes the release. Dark, gritty and harder-edged than its predecessor, this is a stripped-back peak-time club cut, with a penetrating bassline and hard-hitting kick patterns. The occasional pulse of an atmospheric sample further enhances the body of the track, to form something that’s built solely for the dancefloor.

Hot Creations continues it’s 2021 release schedule in February with a maiden EP from Disaia. The Spanish duo, who are swiftly rising up the electronic music ranks with previous releases on Kneaded Pains and Hector Couto’s Roush Label, make their debut on the imprint with the three-track Cubbe. 

Speaking on Cubbe, the pair discussed the inspiration behind the release, describing how they: “tried to merge several styles of older tech house, using the percussion as a reference to follow the original line of Hot Creations.” The traditional Hot Creations sound is heard right from the beginning, as four-four snare patterns converge on an infectious underlying groove in the title track. Everybody ups the tempo, courtesy of a pumping lead bassline and whispering vocal offerings, paving the way for He Was Out to close with robust percussion and punchy kick-hat combos. 

A prolific pairing in Spain’s thriving electronic music scene, Madrid-based Disaia have established themselves as an esteemed act in contemporary house with previous releases on both Riva Starr’s Snatch! Records, and Kevin McKay’s iconic Glasgow Underground. BPM Portugal, Music On and Tomorrowland are just a few examples of music institutions who have laid host to the boys’ performances in recent times, whilst their own imprint, Siena, acts as a platform to promote and expand their own sound, as well as that of rising producers.
