Straight outta Osaka, Japan, @chi_yu comes with a disturbing and mysterious vibe at quite an early age. She's been producing Drum and Bass for just a year and hitting her 18 y.o. in July. We are so glad and excited to expose such a young and promising talent to the World with her debut official release - Vyior EP.

VYIOR EP is a colorful palette of 4 tunes inspired by many, yet the whole EP demonstrates how creative and heavy one might be.

SHAPESHIFTER was definitely a good choice to start with, setting the mood and theme for the whole project.

We don't know exactly how to describe RIOT FIELDS (WTaF?), but we think Maestro Mefjus and the Highest Emperor will be proud of CHASM.

ASPHALT as the last tune might represent a kind but honest goodbye to this almost a year-lasting project and cooperation between us as a label and Chiyu as the new yet undiscovered artist on the other side of the Planet Earth during such turbulent times. It's the imprint of this story as well…

  “Writing this EP was my chance to escape from all of the sadness and pain that 2020 bought us all, in all its myriad ways. Having the chance to be writing music and bury my head in the creative process was an absolute lifeline for me and something that made me feel good and happy and able to pretend for a moment that the bad stuff wasn't there” FD explains. “I've known for a long time that being involved with music makes me happy, but i maybe didn't realise that i can also use it as a positive force in my life to help work through the hard times too. Simple Simon is back with another release on Formation Records, after his earlier release this year, the ‘No Limits’ EP sees the produce bring 4 brand new tracks to the label. 

The first track ‘No Limits’ is not for the faint hearted. Starting off by luring in listeners with an almost tranquil introduction, it’s not long before we’re exposed to the full force of this track. The light and airy vocals are replaced with violent rolling bass, that will tear through sound systems. 

As we move on to ‘Double edge’ there’s a switch up in style. With a heavy rhythmic drum pattern from the outset accompanied by deep dark and dirty bass, this track will have heads bopping all round. The bass only continues to swell as we progress through, don’t be caught off guard when it swells around and takes you with it. 

‘Blue Sky’ brings another new feel to the EP with a much more jubilant Drum and Bass feel. The light and inviting piano is a standout section, with vocals that compliment to tack the track to another level. Don’t think Simple Simon has gone ‘soft’ scattered throughout are reminders of his heavy roots.

The final track  ‘Blue State’ is the perfect ending for the EP, giving listeners an opportunity to become one with the music and be taken on a journey of serenity. We’re given a well thought out assortment of piano’s, once again accompanied by complimentary vocals, with the occasional inclusion bass that’s more sinister.

Up next on our mix series, we welcome Lens who form's part of the ever-growing wealth of women taking over the D&B scene. Starting out in Brighton, she regularly opened for Hybrid Minds, Technimatic, Randall, SpectraSoul and many more. Lens has now gone on to become a resident DJ for Hospital Records and taken command of their long-running Rinse FM show.

For us, she delivers an eclectic mix of energy and a wide range of D&B flavours full of soulful vocals, warped breaks alongside the ever prominent gritty basslines. Oh, we do miss the club with mixes like these...
