To mark the joint re-issue of my album from 2021 'Thanks' and the release of my friend Origin ST's new album on Ambientologist, I've put together a mix of some of my favourite tracks from their back catalogue.

A sonic epilogue to Fionnlagh’s debut album, 'What Came After' builds on the dystopian, cinematic style set out in predecessor, 'What Came Before', with help from some of ambient’s most talented atmosphere specialists. A mix of reinterpretations and original material, the album sees an expansion of earlier themes, often with the contributing artists’ musical trademarks adding new emotive colours.

Like its predecessor, What Came After is not for the faint of hearted, yet it goes beyond the mere scare tactics of typical dark ambient, by leaning into the cinematic imaginations of the likes of Zimmer, Goransson and Jóhannsson. The album further benefits from the experience of some of ambient’s top names, and provides a diverse yet coherent sonic experience.

This album consists of unreleased tracks. Some were not suitable for labels or collaborations, others were just outtakes that I refused to include in any works.

When I listened to them again, they sound interesting. I think my subscribers will find them interesting as well.

On my travels this summer I picked up a book of weird celtic short stories, published by The British Library. This one is inspired by "The Fetch" written by Robert Aickman. The fetch is essentially your own personal sea-hag who will come for you (or those in your family circle) when your time is up. You know it's come for you when it looks you in the face; otherwise, it will pass you, it's head at whatever angle so as not to look at you, as it makes its way to the true victim. Aickman's stoic, Scottish style brings out the folk dimensions of the tale to truly horrific effect. Not surprisingly, I've gone for a funereal march!
