The Time Machine had a blast last week with playing the world debut broadcast of David Myhr's latest song featured on the motion picture soundtrack "Flykten till Framtiden (English title: My Future Love)" which hits cinemas in Sweden in November. The feature-length film is directed by Ulf Malmros and Jaana Fomin and stars Henrik Dorsin, Elias Palin, Victoria Dyrstad and Johan Ulveson. The time-travel themed narrative is partially set in 1973 and for this, composer Jimmy Lagnefors was hired to create a soundtrack authentic to the period. When the director specifically requested a song that "sounds like Electric Light Orchestra" Lagnefors brought in songwriter/artist David Myhr to collaborate. The single "Spellbound" that debuted on Hawaii radio, has been officially released in Sweden and the rest of Europe on the British indie label Lojinx.

Vocalist and song writer Thomas Walsh is widely regarded as one of Ireland's finest exponents of what we call pop tunes, and has enjoyed a critically acclaimed career since his debut (he has worked with Ray Davies of The Kinks, Andy Partridge of XTC, and The Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon). ‘Silverlake’ is the seventh studio album from Pugwash (aka Thomas Walsh). This album differs from recent Pugwash albums in one major respect: it’s essentially a collaboration between two men – Thomas and Jason Falkner. Thomas chats to Dan about the album, and how it was created.

In order to work out arrangements and suitable production, before going to Nashville and working with co-producers Brad Jones and Andreas Dahlbäck, I recorded demos of some of the songs in their simplest form. In the case of "Jealous Sun”, for which Bleu had written words to my melody, I made a really quick one with just some scratch vocals and acoustic guitar to use as a reference.

Producer and singer-songwriter Phil Thornalley was a recent guest on The Time Machine.   Phil’s album project Astral Drive is not only the name of the group but also the name of the album to be released this summer that Todd Rundgren fans may understand the reference to.  Phil shared with the Maui radio audience the world broadcast debut of his music and discussed the inspiration behind his songs.  Phil has not only composed some great songs but also sat behind the mixing console to engineer and produce a number of artists that we’ve been playing on the radio for decades. So many core artists that have been featured on The Time Machine have worked with Phil and this radio show was so much fun and informative.  Radio hosts Tanya Teal and Michael McCartney barely scratched the surface of the many artists Phil has worked with but they did manage to ask him questions about working with Paul McCartney, Andrew Gold, Graham Gouldman, Prefab Sprout, Natalie Imbruglia, Ednaswap, The Cure, Bryan Adams, The Thompson Twins, Robbie Neville, BBMak and a slew of other artists.  

Brand new music was also featured on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast included Shania Twain, Rob Bonfiglio, Judith Owen and Ken Sharp.  Disc jockeys Tanya Teal and Michael McCartney also pulled from The Time Machine music vault from Elton John, Paul McCartney & Wings, Q, The Thompson Twins, Robbie Neville, The Cure, BBMak, Prefab Sprout, Wax UK, Graham Gouldman, Bryan Adams and Natalie Imbruglia.
