This is the first piece completed while learning Tracktion Waveform Pro 11. Almost all sounds are created using the excellent free Spitfire Audio Instruments. The ethereal mystical nature of some of the LBS instruments worked well for this piece of music. There are also percussion loops, sound effects and ambient lake sounds of water and a guitar-esque theme played on a Ibanez PNB14EOPN acoustic Parlor Bass Guitar.

The piece came about because a friend and I were talking about how man-made lakes seem to be lacking something. Many lakes in North America have native American names for the spirit in the lake. Many are simply called spirit lake. In Japanese mythology there are the 'Suijin' (literally: water people or water deity) which are the lake guardians.

My friend and I came to the conclusion that man-made lakes were simply not ancient enough to have developed lake spirit/guardians thus  seem to be 'missing something'.

I think some of the lake spirits are big like Tolkien's Ents. Lake Michigan and Florida's lake Okeechobee have those big ones. Other lakes have small sprites or fairies. How do you see them?

Use this music as a sound track for your imagination and watch some lake spirits arrive and pass by you and see some break into a whimsical dance represented by the bassoon.

The essence of ambient music is not the absence of movement, but movement that takes place on another, more interior, introspective level, a sort of fluctuation without movement, a travel while remaining still, a dance without movement. The dynamism of the musical components is a motion that does not necessarily require a moving body: it moves flows, displaces molecules, opens up spaces.
Haze traces an emotional path that moves on two planes that intersect and emerge from each other: a drones base built with a simple synthesis starting from a basic waveform with a cascading filter. A sound that tends to grow and incorporate veins of noise created with techniques not far from certain shoegaze; and a part made up of compositional textures, vocal elements and sequences of notes that can sometimes include aleatory components.
Much of the source material is experiments or unfinished tracks produced many years ago, when the Molven sound was much more IDM-oriented, as in SAF2013, a track made in 2013 and never released, remixed and included as a sort of callback to the origins.

Pseudonym of Mario Marino, creator and curator of numerous projects and musical events that fuelled the electronic scene in Veneto in the early 90s, linked to the historic radio programme Red Planet. The same name was used at the time as a collective name for DJs to identify a certain ambient-techno sound, that of the so-called chill-out zones.
In 2004 he founded the ambient label Laverna.net and, under the pseudonym matera electronics (later molven), he created some productions in which rarefied and introspective sounds coexist with sequences and rhythmic articulations typical of certain IDM electronics. In the latest productions the sound becomes deeper and more dilated, moving into ambient-drone territories, with vocal elements and noise veins.

After months and months of barely being able to work on it, this track is finally done.....and just in time for Christmas, too. Thank goodness.

This track was a lot of fun to make. Early on, I decided to make it an exercise in using square waves for FM. Toward the end, I started adding in sawtooth waves for various things. I would say about 80% of the sounds in this track use the square or the sawtooth wave one way or the other.
