Dan B Hood (He/They/She) is a Chicago based Artist, DJ, and smartbar’s Lighting Designer. Inspired by construction sites, bathhouses and ‘acid heads’, Dan navigates raw textures and atmospheres to create momentary sensory escapes. They have released mixes on Mutant Radio, Bleak Narrative, and previously hosted a show on My House, Your House. As a new resident of Research & Development they are eager to continue community building by making spaces for dancers and artists to experiment and expand our growing network of like-minded folks across the planet.

Shanti is a Chicago-based DJ, a Research & Development resident, and artist who curates eerie, otherworldly, and longing sounds. While she is a philosopher and writer, Shanti has felt limited by words and has recognized the transcendent ability of music to express concepts, states of consciousness, and conflicting emotions. Philosophical themes of existential angst and ambiguity are explored in her sets through ethereal, foreboding techno, angsty EBM/dark wave, and squishy acid soundscapes. 

Music has always been a way for her to cope with the darker realities of existence. Shanti’s sets weave a story of the simultaneous despair and yearning that are intertwined with the human condition and illustrate an intentional trajectory.

What's good?  Welcome to Scene 5! As I look back it's almost a year ago I dropped Scene 2, a few days before Thanksgiving and now it's almost that time again to eat like crazy, watch some football games and just chill.... Today I had a well deserved day off from work and I decided to catch up on a few music related things so I decided to drop this musical goodness. I hope you enjoy. Lokua is a Chicago based producer and live p/a artist currently focused on minimal, acid-laden, flooriented, swung and polymetric techno. His tools of choice include anything and everything from a laptop and MIDI controllers, to 100s of HP of Eurorack, samplers, drum machines, and polysynths. He brings with him over 25+ years of songwriting experience. 
 
Lokua began his life as a musician making beats in his mother's basement and selling cassette tapes in high school primarily to aid freestyle cyphers. Increasingly inspired by groundbreaking artists like DJ Premier, Aphex Twin, Larry Heard, and Brian Eno, as well as Chicago's underground legends The Opus (of Rubberroom), Lokua immersed himself in the art of live p/a. This eventually led to co-founding the Moment Sound collective and label with fellow artists Slava and Garo, who together held down residencies focused on live electronic music and motion graphics at Subterranean, Darkroom, Rodan, Morseland, and other venues across Chicago. Lokua has released tracks on Moment Sound, Don't Trust Humans, Smooth Agent, Diane's Hunting Club, CPKAY, in addition to self releases. He has opened for artists such as Luke Slater, Claude Young, and Daedalus. He is currently a member of The Listening Club and Podval crews.
