Seattle-raised and now Austin-based, Singer/Songwriter/Performer, Mikaela Kahn, releases the first single, Fire & Lace, from her album, Milk and Honey. Fire & Lace, a soulful R&B-tinged pop ballad showcases her remarkable vocal chops and her clear passion for the kind of music she’s always wanted to record. 

Kahn’s previous recording projects have highlighted her stylistic versatility from award-winning folk-pop to jazz, but this time out, it’s R&B she’s embracing. “ Growing up, I was exposed to all kinds of music and I loved singing it all, “ Mikaela remembers,” but I’ve always been drawn to R&B. It wasn’t until recently, that I’ve been in a position where I could engage as a singer and writer.” 

Little doubt Mikaela is ready to put her spin on R&B.  There’s the recent nationwide tour she joined as a backup singer for Grammy-award winning R&B vocalist, Chrisette Michele and the spontaneous duet she sang with Trey Songz, when he showed up at one of her piano bar gigs, or her turn as a featured singer in DEPO’s latest single, Never Be The Same. All these performances and more encouraged Mikaela to push ahead in the musical direction she’s most excited about. 

Mikaela describes Fire & Lace as a reflection on relationships, although, none in particular. “ I liked the idea of the yin and yang of fire and lace as a metaphor for men and women in complex relationships.” 

The song was co-written with producer, Justin Shelton and features Mikaela on vocals. She’s backed by an outstanding band of fellow alums from the University of North Texas School of Music. “I feel very lucky to work with these great musicians. We've been playing together for nearly 7 years and are so musically synched. We support each other on everything we do."
