The third various of our trilogy is landing. As with our previous compilations, we focus on artists close to the label and give them space to express freely their current influences and mood. We imagine this VA as a continuous story, exploring different styles from drum and bass to techno, with a care on sound design and psychedelia.

The Various starts with Vardae’s track “Floating”. Can’t find a better title for this one, mixing dnb broken beats with some mesmerizing textures and a real attention on stereo wideness. Then comes “Negative option” from Mersel and “Constant voices” from 9beats, both fixing a heavy groove with subtle alien pads and trancy basses. The fourth track, “Propagating Dynamic Disturbance” from Anechoic, shows a deeper approach with raw acid wavefolded lines and cycling synth movements. Last track from Milan based Atoloi “Verde Serpente” focuses on fast synth arpeggios and shifted percussions giving the listener a real psychedelic experience. It shows our label has no boundaries when it comes to genre, but finds unity in mental, groovy and innovative material that will fit perfectly in your sets.

It’s been a while since I’ve put up a live DJ set. It’s also been a while since I’ve played a mostly electro set. Thought I’d take this opportunity at The Great Beyond this year to record a sunrise set driven by some of my favorite melodic electro tunes ever. Many which I’ve been playing for 20+ years.

A true legend in the electronic music scene, Efdemin embarked on his musical journey with his debut release in 2004, followed by his first album in 2006. Based in Berlin, he's not only a resident at the iconic Berghain club but also the curator of his vinyl-only label, naïf. His music is an embodiment of serenity and sophistication, characterized by an elegant darkness, subtle beauty, and a sense of unwavering composure. Efdemin's impressive discography spans LPs and 12-inch records on renowned labels like Dial, Curle, and Ostgut Ton. His versatility extends to remixes, including a memorable one for Depeche Mode, as well as his collaborative project Pigon with RNDM, and his exploration of drone and ambient soundscapes under his original name, Phillip Sollmann. 🎧

Efdemin's SPANDAU20 mixtape offers an immersive auditory journey, commencing with a potent voice sample from the celebrated artist Tracey Emin. Function’s tale begins with a gregarious mother who would keep him occupied as rookie selector for neighbourhood gatherings while growing up in Brooklyn and New Jersey. Music was his world, and it wasn’t long before he found himself standing in awe before Jeff Mills in 90s NYC at the infamous nerve centre of Club Kid hedonism Limelight, where he went on to pick up a Thursday-night residency himself. Few DJs can claim to have been around during such a moment in club history, but ten years later came another. His friendships with Regis, Silent Servant and Female turned into the much acclaimed collective Sandwell District, a pivotal sound for an era that forced everyone’s attention towards Berlin. There he became Berghain resident and played a role in shaping the club’s fabled musical opus. In the years since (and following Sandwell’s dissolution) he’s matured in his own right, with a number of mesmeric releases (most recently ‘Green EP’ released on his self-run imprint Infrastructure back in May), collaborations with the likes of Vatican Shadow, Luke Slater and Steve Bicknell, a heavy touring schedule that criss-crosses the world at rapid clip and Bassiani residency to boot. Function’s techno is an ambient fog in which sinister arctic synths and perilous rhythms collide to produce an exquisite fusion that would be hard to mistake for anyone else. Those grainy textures, subterranean ripples and punishing kick drums are a hypnotic rework of his many influences: 90s loops with a more modern and sharper industrial edge. Bassiani Podcast 186 is an impassioned live-recording from the club that weaves through a number of hammering tracks and steadily climbs towards its furious climax. A hair-raising three-hour beast courtesy of this decorated techno behemoth.

AN PREMIERE 249 | Concierge - Inversion [DUPLICITY]

Down under we look today for our premiere on Melbourne based label, Aythekos. They’ve joined forces with Liam Costar, for a new long player titled, Pertinax (month 1). Rounding out the release are three remixes by LSS, Anthony Linell, and Claudio PRC.

To Live, To Perish gets the Claudio PRC treatment as the Italian artist applies his signature spiraling take. Heavy, driving percussion keeps the energy high while the bass line worms its way in between, keeping the listener entranced. Saw like synths grind over the top, providing a nice range of movement so as to not let anything get too stale. Not that it could ever, Claudio’s remixes and originals rarely seem to drag on, we could listen to them for hours, and have!

Claudio’s remix, and the rest of Liam Costar’s Pertinax release will be released out into the world, March 7th.

Live DJ Set At The Great Beyond 2024

Live recording of my 2nd room performance at the Kajunga World stage for a midwest festival in July 2024.

RIYL 90s Jungle, IDM, Aphex Twin, ACID

This set was influenced by a Grant Wilson-Claridge (half of Rephlex Records) dj set for an early 2000s Rephlex label tour. Grant closed the night with ragga jungle and AFX Acid Jungle.

This is my attempt at connecting the dots across current Jungle styles in a mostly deep zone from 3XL to Future Retro / Tim Reaper to Sully and experimental regions between before the AFX drill n bass rinse out finish.

This set idea has been stewing in my brain for 20 years. Mad props to Kajunga Records for giving me a platform and live audience to make this happen!

Samuli Kemppi is a Helsinki-based producer, DJ, radio host, promoter, and label owner, best known as a long-standing figure in Finnish techno music. His career dates back to the late 1980s, and he has played a central role in both the Finnish and international electronic music scenes.
Samuli Kemppi specializes in deep techno and is known for his dark-toned and thought-provoking productions. His style is often atmospheric and rhythmically intense. Kemppi has made him a respected name both behind the decks and in the recording world. He has released music on several well-regarded record labels as well as on his own imprint.
Together with Juho Kusti, Kemppi is the co-founder and host of the Deep Space Helsinki podcast series. Over the years, the show has evolved into a highly respected platform among techno enthusiasts, offering high-quality, cutting-edge music and in-depth DJ sets.
