An audio soundscape recorded at Berry Hill Fields, Stoke-on-Trent during a dawn chorus community nature walk in September 2023. Featuring ambient sound, conversation and birdsong. Compiled and edited by artist Leanne Cunningham, produced by Urban Wilderness CIC and funded by Keele University as part of the 'Wilder Connections' project exploring local biodiversity.

'the self' was written for a live performance in autumn 2015 in Brussels at 'the other self' festival on gender, voice, language and identity. [title by Julia Eckhardt] Derived from the title these 2 songs 'the other' and 'the self' came into being. They are based on the same MPC programming with samples exchanged, while 'the self' holds AGF's voice, 'the other' is based on unidentified samples. The track 'wicked problems' was an accidental play. 'the other self' is a mash up of all 3 tracks to promote this joint. ENJOY

The artwork is a Rorschach 'Tintenklecks' by AGF and additonal design by Carsten Stabenow.

Combining a close relationship between the interior and the exterior of the surrounding spaces of E&C, Narrating the Urban Space occupies a place in which many sources of visual elements and sonic layers meet and merge, focusing on the divisions between public and private spaces.

Is the gender of an artist significant in the creative process? Does being a female artist influence how a work is created and perceived? How significant is ‘the female gaze’ in contemporary art – work that is presented from a female perspective or reflecting female attitudes.

As part of our International Women’s Day 2016 celebrations, a panel of artists discussed what it means to create work from a female perspective in today’s contemporary art world.

In this podcast, Eva Rothschild RA, Vanessa Jackson RA and Josie Cockram discuss these issues and the extent to which being a female artist has influenced their work.

The event was chaired by Hilary Robinson, Professor of Visual Culture at Middlesex University and editor of 'Feminism-Art-Theory 1968-2014'.

Joan Bakewell is a writer, broadcaster and Labour peer. Born in Stockport and educated at Cambridge, she began her career as an advertising copywriter before moving into broadcasting. A pioneering female on screen for the BBC in the ’60s, Joan’s television career started with  Late Night Line-Up (1965-72), followed by Heart of the Matter (1988-2000). Joan has been a columnist for The Guardian, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Independent and The Telegraph. Her books include the autobiography The Centre of the Bed (2004), the novel All the Nice Girls (2009), and her heartfelt reflections on life with What I leave Behind (2016). Joan was made a CBE in 1999 and a Dame for her services to journalism and the arts in 2008. In January 2011 she took her seat in the House of Lords as Baroness Bakewell of Stockport.

Over the summer, Laura Barton joins our third podcast guest, Baroness Joan Bakewell in her North London garden to discuss growing up in Stockport, the shift she’s witnessed in women’s rights and the tiny changes that make life more tolerable.
