In these eight tracks both artists combine lush melodies with idm-ish beats, samples and experimental sounds. Micrometeoritic Flowerpot reflects our current society, which constantly has a sword of Damocles hanging over its head but must continue to live positively and give its best in resilience

The Uni series began when Alva Noto was booked to play live at the club UNIT in Tokyo, and had to adapt his sound accordingly for that environment.

‘UNIEQAV’ follows-on from and develops the concept of Alva Noto’s ‘Unitxt’ and ‘Univrs’ albums, and completes the third part in the trilogy, whereby each record is both unique and part of the bigger picture. This is also mirrored in the artwork for each release, which when combined form a triptych spelling ‘Uni’.

Described by Carsten as “sonically representing an underwater dive”, the gleaming ‘UNIEQAV’ brings as usual an inherent artistic, conceptual and scientific depth. Mathematics, data, unit systems, grids, rhythms, codes, text, language, spoken word, DNA, science technology and nature are all utilised, for both inspiration and execution.  

As with the last two Uni releases, the French sound poet Anne-James Chaton collaborates here, on ‘Uni Dna’. Where on previous records Chaton first provided a vocal track to which Nicolai composed, this time the duo flipped it; the poet wrote for an existing track, adding his unique vocal approach to recite amino acids that constitute the DNA molecule.

Regarding Carsten’s interest in 3D sound design and building sonic spaces, ‘UNIEQAV’ transports the listener to a modern, spacious and zen-like place for meditative movement. But conversely the album works equally well in a dark club - as for every glistening digital spark and simple, emotive melody - there’s a stealthy bassline, frenetic drum pattern and colossal low-end thump.

Bio : Guillaume and Anthony form a duo from Bordeaux who have been sharing their passion for music since school, where they met in the 90s.
Their initial great taste for rock or even noise music was shattered when they discovered and listened to some English mixtapes brought back by friends. Their move from rock to electronic music occured when they found out about artists such as The Chemical Brothers, Dj Panacea or the Digital Hardcore Recording label team founded by talented Alec Empire.
Many nights and parties followed and allowed them to perfect this 'electro culture'. They were both involved in different rock and other mixed types of music projects and bands and thus experienced machines. They finally went into partnership in 2009 and Look For Device was born.
Why does this name 'Look For Device' sounds like an obvious fact ? A direct reference to the Sheffield born duo and to their taste for playing with synthesizers' and drum machines'  buttons. In the studio, they set up
their friends Stylophone, TR606, TB303 and more oldfashioned Yamaha, Roland or Korg things in order to create an electronica sound in the broadest sense of the word. All this in the pure line of works of artists they love such as : Boards of Canada, Mike Paradinas, Luke Vibert, LFO, Amon Tobin and their fellows from Warp, Rephlex,Ninja Tunes or Planet Mu.
