Los Angeles born composer Tyler Bates was inspired early on by a breadth of musical impressions that ranged from John Coltrane to Chopin, and the rock operas 'Hair' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar.' An array of artistic influences set the course for Bates' powerfully emotive musical signature that often combines disparate components that become indigenous within his compositions for film, television, video games and new media. His profound ability to create worlds of atmospheric soundscapes fused with traditional orchestra led to groundbreaking scores for Zack Snyder's 'Dawn of the Dead' and '300' movies. Transcending pop culture, '300' sold nearly 400,000 albums, making it one of the most popular score albums of the 21st century.

Bates' authentic approach drew the attention of 'Dawn of the Dead' screenwriter, James Gunn, which led to scores for Gunn's horror-comedy 'Slither,' and his comically tragic superhero classic, 'Super.' Bates and Gunn are currently working on Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' which is being filmed to Bates' original themes. Bates' work spans a broad spectrum of filmmakers including William Friedkin, Genndy Tartakovsky, Joe Johnston, and Takashi Shamisu. He worked extensively with rock icon director Rob Zombie on several films, including two 'Halloween' franchise movies, 'The Devil's Rejects,' and Zombie's slapstick cartoon 'The Haunted World of El Superbeasto.' Bates also produced string arrangements for Zombie's album "Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackal."

Bates' work on AMC's 'Low Winter Sun' (which premiered August 11, 2013) features a gritty sonic landscape that paints a three-dimensional picture of the economically distressed city of Detroit. The show's title sequence features the song 'Hustlin' In The Motor City', written by Tyler Bates with show creator Chris Mundy, The song is performed by Detroit R&B legend, Bettye LaVette backed by Tyler's guitars and a band comprised of some of today's hottest musician/producers.

Titles such as Army of Two: 40th Day, Transformers: War for Cybertron, and the 2013 smash, God of War Ascension, have established Tyler Bates as one of today's top composers for video games. Details of Bates' most recent game score will be released in the near future.

The emotional power of Bates' scores for '300' & 'Watchmen' resonated with Atlanta bred DJ, Le Castle Vania. The two were introduced and an instant connection was made. Bates and Dyland Eiland (aka Le Castle Vania) collaborated on several songs that will appear on Le Castle Vania's debut EP titled "Prophication," (released September 2nd, 2013), and his forthcoming LP on Mousetrap/EMI records, founded by world renowned electronic artist, Deadmau5.

Bates was known as an artist/guitarist/producer before his scoring career began. In the mid-1990's, he co-founded the band Pet with singer-songwriter Lisa Papineau. Quickly becoming one of LA's most popular indie-alternative bands, Pet signed with Atlantic Records. Their song "Lil Boots" featured on the soundtrack for 'Crow: City of Angels,' hit the platinum sales mark before the band embarked on its first national tour with such groups as Blink 182, Limp Bizkit and Social Distortion. Influenced by years of live performances, Bates' musical voice struck the ear of Californication creator Tom Kapinos, and has led to seven seasons of one of Showtime's most popular series. Steeped in sex, drugs and rock & roll, Bates' collaborations on the show extended to rock legends Marilyn Manson, Steve Jones, Tommy Lee, and rock & roll comic satirist, Tim Minchin. Bates recently completed work on Ti West's latest film, 'The Sacrament.' The Eli Roth-produced movie will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, September 2013.
