Ultimae proudly presents "Gneiss", a first solo EP on the label for Danish composer Tore Kofod Hyldahl aka Erot after his participation on Martin Nonstatic's "Granite Remixes" and releases on labels such as Iboga Records, Altar and Fallen Metropolis.

The emotive and abstract musical tale invites the listener to escape perception, understanding and apprehend the vast of music, of nature, time and space. Grounded yet floating freely, the chiselled rhythms and the evanescent pads create the cradle of contrasts in which one can let himself be lulled and carried away on a deep and delicate journey. Erot welcomes aboard space ambient and downtempo initiates Henrik Rolsted Laugesen and Vincent Villuis, respectively known as Lauge and AES Dana to fuel the experience with extra cinematic atmospheres and beats.

With an extensive background in music production, ambient and electronic duo @AWVFTS have come a long way. Comprised of friends Dustin O’Halloran and Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie, the composers shared their album The Undivided Five which was released via Ninja Tune and praised by NPR upon its release. We are thrilled to share a richly ambient and ethereal mix from the duo.

Adrift (DOTS. Live edit)

Loop are excited to welcome electronic musician Zuke - aka Ed Zuccollo to the family with the release of his new single ‘Voyager’. The Wellington-based artist has built a cult-following in the underground electronic scene for his dynamic hybrid live/DJ sets and an ability to tell a story through music. The track is the first single taken from his upcoming debut album.

The single ‘Voyager’ is named after the twin NASA space probes launched in 1977 to explore the outer solar system. Onboard those crafts is a “Golden Record”, various greetings and recordings that tell the story of our planet, a message in a bottle tossed into the cosmic ocean. ‘Voyager’ includes the greeting “hello from the children of planet earth” - serving as an intro to the celestial sound that is Zuke.

Densely layered, uplifting and lush with big synth sounds, ‘Voyager’ showcases Zuke’s unique production style, combining vintage synths and analogue equipment. The release includes the Downtempo/Organic House remix by Sanoi & Zuke, which highlights the emotive elements of the original melody.

‘Voyager’ is the first single from Zuke’s his long awaited debut album, set for release late 2024. Elements of jungle, dubstep, downtempo, house, and ambient field recordings fuse together, creating a blend of melodic beauty and deep bass with a human touch. Over the next few months, Loop will release a series of singles, remixes, and alternate versions, showcasing the diversity of this artist.

Voyager

Hyperion was a Greek Titan, son of Earth and Sky, father of Sun, Moon and the Dawn. My understanding of mythology represents mystery, wonder and awe of natural phenomena but also our desire to understand, and in doing so we tell very human stories which connect us in shared understanding, to each other and also to nature. These stories are also like time capsules into the minds of humans past. 
I am a big fan of layering light and dark together. The breakbeats, deep bass and reeses converging together in the second drop with emotive piano chords really do that for me. The track ended up this spacious, deep quarter-time thing with a decent jungle influence. The moment the breakbeats enter is this kind of bridge section where the bass switches up to 808s and there are all these fragments of percussion and other layered breaks in there. That section is really introducing the jungle element, and is the most ‘jungle’ part of the album, a bit of a nod to my jungle influence.

Hyperion

This soothing reinterpretation of 'Hyperion' delves deeper into melancholy and nostalgia, highlighting the subtlety and depth of expression on my primary instrument, the piano. The natural sounds of playing softly—gentle creaks of the piano stool, quiet shuffling—add to the intimate atmosphere. Recorded during a rainstorm, I doubled down on coziness by gently layering in recordings I’d made of light rain and the crackling of the fireplace in the house where I grew up. Fans of Nils Frahm’s evocative piano recordings will appreciate the emotional depth and texture throughout.

PREMIERE: Zuke - How We Met

New Zealand-based electronic producer @Zukebeats (Ed Zuccollo) releases the 3rd single ‘How We Met’, from his forthcoming debut album Come Closer (out 13 Dec).

A lush fusion of downtempo and organic house, layered with deep ambient chords and elements of acid, the single also features a remix by Nourish, the newly formed duo of longtime friends and collaborators Katie Double and Paige Julia. Nourish combines Katie's musical artistry on harp and electronic instrumentation, with Paige's experience in crafting dancefloor-driven beats. This remix marks the first official release under the Nourish alias.

“We took our favorite elements from the original track, slowed them right down, and added our own bass, drums, and percussion in line with our style,” says Paige of Nourish.
