Following his debut album last year, Sentient returns on the label with Unspeakable Periphery: Otherworld Transmission, a remix compilation that reframes his original work through the lens of a carefully curated group of artists.

From Alpha Solo’s dubbed-out abstraction to Clearlight’s tekker translation, from Soreab and La Serpiente tense rhythmic frameworks, to Left Path and Barking hypnotic and meditative zones, the compilation traverses overall percussive science and atmospheric deconstructions.

Closing the journey is a haunting illbient reinterpretation of the entire original album by Sentient himself, reassembling his own compositions into something more introspective - a stretched and fractured world somewhere adjacent to this one. As a bonus, the release also includes a continuous mix version of Unspeakable Periphery.

Simian Mobile Disco's @jas_shaw steps to for a hot edit of newcomer (or is it a moniker? hmm) @classicalmechanics for his new release on Leeds' house/techno bastion 2020 Vision.

It's typically oddball 'techno' from Mr. Shaw, chopping up the low frequency throbs and distorted bleeps of the original to great effect and constructing a succinct, broken beat, tribal-tinged rhythm in the process.

First Listen: Classical Mechanics - 'Deviant Slew' (20/20 Vision)

Classical Mechanics present the debut release ‘Count Basis on 20/20 Vision. The 5 track EP comprises four originals and a re-working from Simian Mobile Disco’s Jas Shaw. The tracks reside in the world of glitchy electronic experimentation and will appeal to lovers of output from Floating Points, Four Tet, Ricardo Villalobos, Zip, Margaret Dygas, Craig Richards, Akufen, Apparat and Shigeto. 

Classical Mechanics have produced a very diverse range of work behind the scenes previously; including for the Gabriel Prokofiev's Non Classical label and iK7. The pedigree of the writing and composition really comes across as the tracks evolve through complex arrangements yet always returning to strong hooks over a wide range of tempos. Overall they are best absorbed as a listening experience while Jas Shaw really brings lead track ’Scribbles' to the dance-floor with a stripped down kick heavy dub version. 

The visual side of this project collaborates with groundbreaking artist, BR-LASER, who works a custom built analog laser system, working as an oscilloscope, creating artwork from frequencies directly inputted from the audio track.
