"25-year old producer, sound engineer and DJ, @daevmartian is one of the brightest lights shining out of Johannesburg. Having previously dabbled with Kaytranada-esque house music, on his twelve-track LP Frequency Manipulation he utilises some transferable production techniques and bolstering floor-friendly grooves that recall the likes of Max Graef and Henry Wu with added flecks of Dilla, Madlib and Doom.

An example of this is on new single "88", featuring Thomas Hazey and ASAP Shembe, which incorporates a mixed bag of hazy production, a funk-inspired drum patterns and an incantation-like chorus. We are pleased to present the debut mix from the elusive Amduscias as the next entry to the "At a Glance" series. Perhaps one of the most exciting new names on the UK circuit, his commitment to anonymity lets his music speak for itself: broken, gritty, UK techno experiments that repurpose the tropes of the hardcore continuum with devastating effect.

His contribution to the “At a Glance” series features plenty of unreleased material from himself, as well as from contemporaries such as Facta. With a lauded EP on Bristol based Space Hardware already to his name that's seen heavy rotation from Ben UFO and Upsammy amongst others, Amduscias has proven himself as a producer to keep a very close eye on in 2019.

The term “journey” is frequently over-used to describe mixes, but it somehow feels the only way to correctly contextualise Amduscias’s entry to the series. Somehow able to move through twisted incarnations of techno, grime, jungle and even Tangerine Dream, over the course of an hour Amduscias welds together conflicting rhythms and moods, creating a pulsing polyrthymic backdrop that writhes against conventional notions of timekeeping. Ambience is cleverly used as a means to splice in dramatic tempo shifts, with the result that every beatless track builds tension for an anticipated tonal change. This mix is on the bleeding edge of abstraction and functionality, challenging the listener’s perception of what to expect from a dancefloor: it’s not for the faint hearted.

He is depicted as a human with claws instead of hands and feet, the head of a unicorn, and a trumpet to symbolize his powerful voice. Amdusias is associated with thunder and it has been said that his voice is heard during storms. In other sources, he is accompanied by the sound of trumpets when he comes and will give concerts if commanded, but while all his types of musical instruments can be heard they cannot be seen. He is regarded as being the demon in charge of the cacophonous music that is played in Hell.
