I'm fighting with myself

As the autumn days pass by and the evening darkness arrives at an ever earlier hour, and grey skies replace the blue, I can often feel, when walking, the breath of winter on my face. Back in the studio, despite the warmth, this feeling translates to soft, snow-muffled sounds, and a propensity for even more melancholic melodies than usual.

It was on such a walk that I first met Yukiko; her name is pronounced a little like “you-ch-ko”. She is, as her name in Japanese indicates, a snow child; this means she was born during the winter months. As you can tell from the cover artwork, she is happy to be alone in the winter forest with flakes of snow landing like kisses on her upturned face.

She gave me the impression that she might visit my studio quite often and, each time, would perhaps leave clues about her story for me to discover before they melt, and to weave them into words, music, and imagery.

I hope you enjoy this, the first story of Yukiko, the Snow Child ❤️ॐ
