This weekend in theaters saw mostly smaller releases in the form of movies like Action Point, the action film, Upgrade, and the survival drama Adrift (which admittedly had a sizable $35M budget).

Of course, the big news comes in regards to Solo: A Star Wars Story, which took in $29.3M in its second weekend. While being in first place for the second weekend in a row may seem all well and good, this is a substantial 65% drop from its opening weekend, and we can't forget just how disappointing that first weekend was. As of this writing, it's worldwide cume sits at $264.2M -- a solid take for many movies, but when the movie cost over $250 million to make, probably another $100-$150M to advertise, you're going to have to do much better than that in order to even break even. As it stands, it's hard to argue that this is anything less than a flop for Lucasfilm and the House of Mouse.

At No. 2 is Deadpool 2, dropping 46.3% from its second weekend with $23.3M. I wouldn't be surprised if next weekend saw this comedy-superhero film outgross Star Wars, which is especially surprising since it's been out for one week longer. As of this writing, the film is about to crack $600M worldwide. When all said and done, I can see it approaching $700M, but it doesn't look like it'll be able to make the $783.1M that first one made -- which is by no means a bad thing. Money is money, and so long as they're making it within safe margins, there is no reason to assume X-Force won't happen.

At No. 3 is the aforementioned survival drama Adrift. Off its $35M budget, it only made $11.5M in its opening weekend. Perhaps with names like Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin attached to it, STX Entertainment was hoping it would be enough to help it succeed on a weekend where no other major releases dropped. Clearly, that was wishful thinking.
