BIO:
Józef Flakus, also known as Somnolent Works, is a producer, DJ, and music explorer based in Upper Silesia. He is passionate about breakbeat/jungle rhythms, old school electro, and techno music, often with robotic and strong elements. He loves to break conventions and explore new musical directions taken from different genres of music. The gritty and atmospheric landscape of factories, mines, and steelworks of his hometown region has had a significant impact on his music, particularly in its darker and more experimental elements. Somnolent Works' sound often reflects the mechanical rhythms and metallic textures of the industrial world, as well as the resilience and perseverance of the people who lived and worked in the region.
He is a regular member of the CEL club in Katowice, where he can be heard playing his eclectic selections from behind the decks. His latest releases include his debut EP titled "Surface Noise," which was self-released at the end of 2021. The EP showcases his distinctive style of noisy breakbeat rhythms, while also exploring new musical directions. In late 2022, he released the "Paperclip" single on the SKAN label compilation, which further demonstrated his ability to craft intricate and immersive soundscapes within the electro genre. On March 23rd, 2023, he is set to premiere a larger release on the POTOP label in Katowice.
