For the label's ninth release, Deep'a & Biri's Black Crow Records revisits one that helped establish the label's direction back in the imprint's first year.  BCR003, 'Insular Realms' by fellow Israeli producer Hakimonu, was praised by many including Resident Advisor, who said the EP proved "his off-kilter take on techno and house is as vibrant and inviting as ever".

Now in 2017, Deep'a & Biri have invited Mind Against, Luigi Tozzi and Echologist (aka dub techno veteran Brendon Moeller) to all rework the original version of Insular Realms for 2017.  First up are Life & Death's Mind Against, with one of the Fognini brothers most direct techno productions yet, with a mid-track moment of calm before the intensity resumes.

Luigi Tozzi, the Rome-based producer who has had previous outings on Dynamic Reflection and Dino Sabatini's Outis Music, contributes the second remix. Taking the lead from the original's more ethereal moments, his version is dreamy & almost wistful as it propels along its shaking rhythm.  

The B-side offers two takes from Brendon Moeller in his Echologist guise, with a Dub mix that twists the original into an acid-inflected track that slowly ratchets up the tension over its seven minutes, while the Reshape breaks things down into a churning rhythm peppered with flashes f off kilter sonic details.  Completing the package is a digital-only new rework by Hakimonu himself - a slowed down, marching rhythm that foregrounds Insular Realms's jazz influences with the addition of live brass instrumentation that compliment things wonderfully.

Both of them offer us their dancefloor version of the title, Chris having also used elements from POLYWOG digital bonus), hence the title INFECTED WOG.
THANATOS is resolutely Techno, based on a heady loop with a little old school touch that should make everyone agree on the dancefloor.
HOCHBAHN closes the vinyl, with a rhythm at the limit of saturation and a pad that counterbalances everything to obtain a perfect track.

French producer Hemka delivers her debut album on Darko Esser’s BALANS Records imprint this March entitled ‘Hunger Waves’. 

Residing in Paris via Marseille, Hemka has been impressing in the wider techno scene following stellar releases on Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint, TWR72’s Float Records and Tripeo aka Darko Esser’s BALANS label. Hemka’s intricate yet vibrant productions with an emotional, hypnotic edge have garnered support from names such as Rebekah, Anthony Parasole, Truncate and Dasha Rush in addition to seeing her join the likes of Len Faki, Surgeon and James Ruskin in and around the Parisian
and European club circuit. ‘Hunger Waves’ sees Hemka drop her debut album on BALANS following releases from Mike Parker, ROD, 3KZ, label boss Darko Esser and many more.

‘Discovery’ kicks off the album with space-fueled modulations, sweeping synths and uplifting elements before ‘Golden Coins’ deploys shimmering rhythms, eerie yet enticing tones elegantly harmonising with undulant, low frequencies. ‘Emergency’ together with ‘Mushroom Kingdom’ and ‘Retrieved’ see the album gain momentum with three energetic techno rollers which balance tripped-out oscillations, unsettling atmospherics and reverberating weight bouncing off the throbbing kicks.

‘The Lost Levels’ keeps the energy flowing through growling synthesis, spiraling strings and headspinning grooves until ‘Innocence’ lays focus on syncopated 909 rhythms, tension-building melodies and bright, whirling bleeps throughout. ‘Hunger Waves’ moves into emotive territories gracefully fusing euphoric euphony, warm and progressive chords and wistful ambience until ‘Unusual Situation’ rounds
off the impressive package with gentle keys, bubbly drums orbiting around beautifully subtle themes.
