SMPLR is a new digital imprint from City Bowl Wax Network that brings together like-minded artists from around South Africa, presenting their work in a thematic, genre-focused package. The first instalment highlights facets of the country’s fast-developing techno scene, and presents a diverse array of moods and styles ranging from the deep and hypnotic to tougher, groove-focused cuts. This release attempts to distill unique and diverse sonic identities into a cohesive package that is focused on the DJ, and features an array of dance-floor oriented tools that should find their place at home in your record bag. The release features label friends and new-comers alike, with tracks from Deano, Faretrade, MVLS, Fabian Cioffi, JED, Black Lake, Terminus and PULS/E. During this time when we cannot dance together, we hope these tracks remind you of the enduring passion intrinsic to South Africa’s emerging scene, one that you will certainly hear more about in years to come.
