My friend Anja Schneider recently asked me to do a guest mix as Amber for her Dance Under The Blue Moon radio show in Germany. I couldn't get a recording of the show, but I thought I'd share the Amber mix here.

Installé depuis des années en Europe, il s'est retrouvé signé sur bon nombre de labels influents tels que Ostgut Ton, Delsin, Bass Culture ou encore Saved Records, avant de prendre aujourd'hui le chemin de la liberté avec sa propre structure :

"R3 - Roland Rocha Records, était l'étape logique pour moi aujourd'hui. J'ai beaucoup de choses à faire écouter aux gens. C'est une grande liberté que de pouvoir sortir des morceaux quand je le souhaite, dans le bon contexte, avec le bon timing et le contrôle sur mon propre travail. With her I shared consoles and releases and I can say without any doubt that, considering her technique and her musical taste able to fit in any context, she is one of the best artists that I have ever met.

YUKA

Yuka is a female DJ now based in Moscow (where she has lived since 1998), but who began her career in distant Bratsk, Siberia. The town – a local industrial center – is probably more famous for what it dumps than what it makes; in the recent past it was listed as one of the thirty most polluted cities in the world. It wouldn’t take much persuasion for someone to move on… Yuka’s preparation for a shift to the capital’s nightclubs was lengthy, however, since music had played an important role in her life since the age of 6.
Over time, her passions moved in the direction of painting, sculpture, and design – activities she continues to this day. That initial school-day enthusiasm at the piano would eventually win out, though, and dictate her choice of higher education. Her musical training thus led to a degree from the Irkutsk Arts Institute, where she no doubt studied under her real name, Irina Solbutova.
Now that she’s fully ensconced in Moscow, her music appears regularly through the outlets of three labels: Fullpanda, m_division, Pro-Tez. That latter orgniation has also created a series of podcasts in her name for free downloading. The opening broadcast came with a small text that moves swiftly from imaginative fancy to absolute fantasy. In English it reads as follows: “All musicians can be compared to bird-catchers, especially those hunters who’d go looking for songbirds. Some of them would search for a particular type: a nightingale or a lark, perhaps. Others, conversely, would hunt nothing but exotic birds. Once they were caught, the birds would be kept in cages made from sheet music or boxes cut from concert programmes.”
This tendency towards the ornate and magical is a marked facet of her work. When it come to drinks, however, she’s a little more straightforward.

For an introduction to Amsterdam’s techno scene, few are better suited than Jan Pieter Kind (aka JP Enfant). The young DJ and producer has built links with some of the city’s most coveted clubs for his talents behind the decks over recent years, holding residencies at De School and the now-defunct Trouw. Though he’s best known as a DJ, Kind has helped grow Amsterdam’s electronic landscape as one of the figures behind LET, the acclaimed party series and label where he works as promoter and head of A&R.

With a string of recent releases on LET and a gig schedule spanning across Europe, Kind seems more primed than ever for his career to develop, and his recent relocation to Berlin to go full-time in music should help his growth. This weekend he ticks off a bucket list gig opening up for Jeff Mills in Room One, so he sent us a highly stirring and atmospheric techno mix to show us the roots of his sound.

Continuously reflecting and drawing inspiration from its numerous influences and surroundings, Abstract Man is open to and ready for its own continuous evolution.

Formed of two of the three minds behind London-based promoter, On the 5th Day, Abstract Man transfers its artistic intention and love for techno across to parties at the city's best underground music venue, Corsica Studios. If you want to trace the beginnings of DJ Pete's status in Techno culture, you have to go back a very long way. He emerged as a DJ in the pioneering days of the Berlin scene during the late 80s and joined Hard Wax in 1991, which now makes him the longest serving staff member of the legendary record store.
As a producer he made his name with the first release on Chain Reaction in 1995, a sub-label of the Basic Channel imprint, together with René Löwe aka Vainqueur as Scion. Scion also released the first commercially available CD ever produced with the then newly developed software Ableton Live in 2002 and later continued their collaboration as Substance & Vainqueur on the label Scion Versions. Substance, the acclaimed alias DJ Pete uses for his own productions has a back catalogue of highly influential solo efforts and an impressive string of acclaimed remixes for pivotal Techno artists like Juan Atkins, Regis, Kessell, Orphx, Robert Hood, Rhythm & Sound, Monolake or Shed, among many others.
DJ Pete earned similar respect behind the decks, combining highly individual yet refined mixing skills with both his vast encyclopedic knowledge of Techno history and an unquenchable thirst for new sounds that carry the potential to push all boundaries. Beyond that his energetic sets also incorporate elements of pure Techno, the Hard Wax tradition and powerful House tracks. His seemingly unlimited scope is informed by frequent Dynamic Tension nights at Tresor in the late 90s with Surgeon and his residency at Berghain since its opening, as well as countless successful gigs at the most crucial nights of the scene's international circuit. He is also known to merge Techno with Dubstep and selecting Reggae, particularly while working the mighty Killasan sound system as core DJ member of the seminal Wax Treatment events.
DJ Pete's lauded signature style also benefits from his numerous experiences as part of the cherished live acts TR-101 (an improvisational live act in collaboration with Sleeparchive), Scion (either with or without vocalist Paul St. Hilaire), and gigs with many other likeminded DJ innovators. A typical DJ Pete performance is always delivering an array of programming, sequencing, layering and live effects that goes well beyond a mere presentation of tracks. True to Techno's original claim, innovations in sound and technology are intuitively employed to achieve a floor sensation that manages to involve the crowd on as many levels as possible.
