Hoping the internet freaks out over this, I sure am! This album has been 8 years in the making. The second release by Craig Salt Peters and the first since 2006’s self released "Whooping Crane Dance" CD. Over those 8 years, the band has evolved away from being a mostly solo musical project to recording this album as the well oiled 4-piece rock band they have become. Craig has played countless shows in the northwest United States, after moving from his native state of Michigan, as well as appearances at Plan-It-X Fest. In addition to his eponymous band, Craig has performed in the DIY pop bands Canine Sugar (along side Matty Pop Chart and Paul Baribeau), Gal And Lad, and Blanket Truth. The current formation is comprised of shredders Craig Peters, Zach Burba (iji, Megabog), Jacob Jaffe (Love In Mind, Younger Shoulder), and John Broback (Hana And The Goose).

Your Heart Breaks "New Ocean Waves"

Seattle musician and city bus driver, Levoneh, is releasing their album Ground on March 18 on Cruisin Records, in collaboration with Lost Sound Tapes. The psychedelic-folk band is the project of composer and producer Ross Kirshenbaum. Fans of Jay Som and Mount Eerie will be drawn in by Kirshenbaum’s indie guitar tracks laid over live recordings in the wet forests of the PNW.

Ground marks a journey of transformation and reflection through the heartbreak of facing a smoldering world and an ongoing pandemic. The tracks are an extension of the political work Kirshenbaum engaged with where he witnessed first-hand the power of collective action to connect with others and shift systems of power. He hopes these songs can offer somatic political awareness, helping people transition from despair and apathy to realizing how deeply needed their contributions are in the struggle towards racial, economic, and climate justice. Drawing from musical influences deeply rooted in rain, vistas, and every shade of green imaginable, Ground seeks to honor the rituals of love, self-healing, and introspection that will ultimately build us a new, liberatory future.

About Levoneh
Levoneh is a collaborative music project led by composer and producer, Ross Kirshenbaum, based in Seattle, WA on unseeded Duwamish territory. Kirshenbaum grew up in the PNW, deeply influenced by the coalescence of gritty, ethereal, and moody music that evolved there. Levoneh reflects the absorption and digestion of these dichotomies, combining elements of electro-acoustic, psychedelic pop soundscapes with deeply vulnerable protest folk songs.

Where You Were

Stuck in the Present Tense is an album of songs written about eight years ago but only recently recorded. Craig joked that he wanted to record these songs by the time he turned forty. But then he turned forty, there was no album, the rest of the band had moved away. Miraculously, the band regrouped in Seattle in the winter of 2021 for just long enough to relearn the songs, play the Magic Lanes living room, and record. And while Craig, in the intervening years, had forgotten lyrics and guitar solos (long replaced in the brain by bossa nova fake books), Jacob's acumen for shredding soared (Two Tigers solo), John got arty (Kathmandu bass harmonics), and Zach triumphed the taps (Jubilee).

None of the songs are set in the present, and while hardly any of them are even relevant to the songwriter anymore, the underlying idea here is something persistent: nostalgia, heartbreak, big plans, daydreams, and reminiscences can simultaneously be refuges and blackholes. How does anyone have time to reflect on the past, make a five-year plan, and do the dishes over the course of a single day? These songs are kind of about running that existential gauntlet through a series of mundane experiences like rain, roses, pictures, and snow.

The Ashenden Papers is a newer project by Sacramento native, Jason Dezember from NAR! "Night Walk" is an 8 song album of breezy indie pop compiled from 4 seasonal themed EPs that were released in 2021 and 2022. Two songs feature vocals by fellow Sacramento born legend, Rose Melberg. Did you know Jason recorded the Tiger Trap side of their split with Bratmobile on his 4-track? It was also the very first Tiger Trap release. Love to see people grow and change and flourish.

Knife Pleats is the newest project from the prolific Rose Melberg, whose past projects include Tiger Trap, The Softies, Go Sailor, Gaze, Imaginary Pants, PUPS, and several solo records. The first singles from the Vancouver-based project, which features Kaity McWhinney and Tracey Vath of Love Cuts and drummer Gregor Phillips, recall the sounds Melberg is most known for: crisp and bouncy guitar pop and heartfelt lyrics. 

On “One Step Too Far,” Melberg contemplates the passage of time (“Please don’t change too much too fast these days won’t last long”) against lively arraignments. “Terrible” is slightly more pensive, a reflection of the inner workings of a relationship. Both tracks are sure to appeals to Melberg fans old and new.

Love In Mind was a beautiful band that burned hot and fast in Seattle and was gone after one year. They were comprised of Jacob Jaffe, Gordon Baker, Matt Bachmann, and Nathan Anderson; members of some of the most active Seattle bands: iji, Megabog, Neighbors, Sick Sad World and many more.
 
The band broke up because Matt moved to NYC and now, two years after their separation, they have completed the recordings of the band's 12 songs. Call it a full length, sure, you could also call it a retrospective, a time capsule, a snapshot of a moment in time. Love In Mind play catchy indie rock songs with a Weezer-like sense of melody and intertwined guitar lines, the bass lines are very thoughtful and the drumming adept. 
 
Jacob was Love In Mind's primary songwriter and is now pouring his time and effort into Dozer (7 song tape out now) and Gordon plays in Sick Sad World whom just released their first LP to critical acclaim. Jaffe is an extremely special talent when it comes to songwriting, guitar playing, and personality. Seattle is very lucky to have him.

An EP written in 2016, titled "2016", released in 2017. It seems appropriate somehow. Neutral Shirt is the perfect band for Lost Sound Tapes. Their EP sounds like the most pure distillation of some of Lost Sound Tapes nearest and dearest bands. It has the feel of beautiful, delicate pop of Diners, confessional heartbeat of Cave Babies, and soaring guitar rock of Dogbreth. In fact, main songwriter Matt Terrones is even a former member of Mandarin Dynasty and his initial direct interaction with Lost Sound Tapes was booking a show for Imaginary Pants and Your Heart Breaks. 

Neutral Shirt captures the mundanity of the world and loneliness of it all while inviting us to be a part of it and encouraging us not to give up; shades of Stephen Steinbrink. The dualities of friendship and isolation, technology and luddism all peek through these songs and give it a distinctly 2016 feel. Truly lovely songs for a historically awful year.

"THIS REMINDS ME" is a tribute compilation to the music and songs of Baltimore-based, home taping / bedroom-pop legend Linda Smith. Linda released albums and singles on Slumberland, Harriet Records, Feel Good All Over, and her own Preference Recordings label. She was a member of the folky rock band The Woods in the late 80's (not the current one) and a member of the indie pop band Silly Pillows during the late 90's. In a fair and just world (which we do not live in), Linda Smith should be mentioned in the same breath as R. Stevie Moore, Daniel Johnston, and The Mountain Goats. 

The compilation contains 19 tracks in total from Rose Melberg ("All That I Can Give"), Christina Scheneider ("It's Your Party Too"), Silly Pillows ("Figment Of Your Imagination"), Keel Her ("Take This"), and many more. Each track is an interpretation of one of the original songs, most of which were released between 1987 and 2001. Some of these covers are quite true to the original recording while some take an entirely different approach. Several years ago, Bob Huff ("Lonely's Not The Word") and Michael Willis ("All I Did"), friends of Linda Smith, decided to record covers of a few of her songs. This sparked interest in other artists covering her songs and over the span of a couple years Linda slowly collected these 19 tracks and compiled them as one album.

Trevor Kim Gray makes hazy, lo-fi, psych pop music that just makes you feel good. Although he resides in Vancouver, BC, Canada, it would shock no one if they heard this band was instead based in Los Angeles. Well, the artist who made the cover art is from L.A. at least. The album draws from themes of digital interactions, distraction, and obsession.

"Non La is the new moniker of DJ On, a member of the Vancouver indie group Thee AHs. This coming Valentine's Day, Non La will release the heartbreaking LP Not in Love.

Ahead of its arrival, we get a taste of the release with the new song "Light in My Loafers." The song can be streamed in full below.

Of the new tune, On shared the following statement:

This song is an ode to Grindr and gay hook-up app culture. A song dedicated to every faceless, sculpted torso I've met over the years on Grindr, Tinder, Hornet, Scruff, Growlr, Surge and ack'd. The song is a break-up letter I write to Grindr after every unsatisfying sexual encounter. I never send the letter though.

Not in Love will arrive on February 14 as a vinyl release from Kingfisher Bluez and a cassette from Lost Sound Tapes. Its cover art is available above.

LST-114 BOOSEGUMPS "5 Demos" Cassette Tape w/ Digital Download

Heeyoon Won started Boosegumps in their dorm room in 2012 and started recording and releasing music on bandcamp. Soon, they started playing shows and met some really great people including Katie and Fran from Free Cake for Every Creature. In May 2016, Heeyoon officially joined Free Cake as their bassist, then in the summer went on a full US tour as Boosegumps. 

Since then, Boosegumps has done many tours with Free Cake, have joined and left other bands, recorded and released a few EP’s and done small tours. Now Heeyoon plays shows here and there in Philly (when they're allowed again by the public health authority) and creates music when there's time. 

These 5 songs are considered demos but Heeyoon's beautiful and delicate songwriting shines through like a beacon of hope and light. "Perfect Autumn Day" is a sure standout and could possibly be mistaken for a lost track by The Softies. A meandering, melodic lead guitar line floats atop of the rhythmic guitar strums while two layered, harmonizing vocal tracks beautifully detail, well, a perfect autumn day. Each song is a cozy portait of an intimate scene, vivid and comforting in a time when we need tenderness and connection more than ever.
