The first track titled, "Gentrified Children," brings the listener in close with a beautifully orchestrated introduction that sets the tone for the record.  Once settled into the groove, the vocals enter with a mixed choir of familial youth, and the bands singers. The first lyrics are sung from the perspective of a child living in a world where gentrification is running rampant, and the beauty of variance and randomness is tarnished by a society on repeat, only finding comfort in that which is familiar. This message is further depicted by Flex Mathews' verse on the bridge section where he describes the affects of gentrification on his own neighborhood as he has witnessed it in Columbia Heights, Washington DC. The track finishes out with a blend of live and electronic beats accompanied by a rock solid bass line and a psychedelic wash of voices, dripping synths and organic sounds.  An AM radio then tunes into the next song, paying homage to the vibrations in the atmosphere that pass through us everyday unknowingly.

Daily Bread x STS - Reflections (Interview Pt. 2)

“Mirage Á Trois” presents a daring merger between downtempo disco and Southern funk. Dragondeer’s insightful play on words draws attention to the relationship between the proverbial me, myself, and I. “Call it paranoia or delusion...it's a cautionary tale of getting past the tricks your mind can play on you,” vocalist Eric Halborg explains. Casey Sidwell’s bass line, Carl Sorensen’s drum pocket and Thievery Corporation's Jeff Franca's tasteful percussion represent initial stability. Guitar exchanges between Cole Rudy and Analog Son guitarist Jordan Linit spiral into energy that lends itself into spinning thoughts and hazy daydreams. Halborg and Linit heighten the hallucinatory tale through wistful solos as the song ramps up then fades out mirroring an illusion rather than a crash and burn.

Lotus has crafted a unique musical style outside of simple genre limitations. On a given weekend the band could be the only group with guitars at an all electronic music festival and then the next night crash a traditional rock festival with their dance heavy beats, synths and samples. Equal parts instrumental post-rock and electronic dance, the band's distinguishing feature is the ability to maintain a decidedly unique musical voice and remain current while bucking passing trends.

No matter what the venue, the energetic joy and catharsis of a Lotus show is infectious. The band slowly built a devoted fan base through steady touring and the crowds have grown at an increasing pace. This grassroots growth has made the band in high demand for festivals including Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Ultra, and Rothbury and earned the band sold out shows at the country's premier theatres and clubs.
