Adopting the stance of the observer and being out of step means resisting the injunction to react immediately thus in accordance with expectations.
It is deliberately placing yourself as a grain of sand in the gears by introduicing slowness as a variable and acknowledging the conceivability of a wrong note due to its mere existence.
