Memories on wax #01 - Waking Life

Perpendicular Music is a new series of live performances by Dial Records co-founder Peter M. Kersten aka Lawrence, premiered at the finissage of Marina Pinsky’s exhibition Infinite Play at La Loge, Brussels in April 2023. A variety of acoustic instruments and pre-recorded material on cassette tape intersects with computer-based audio manipulation. Slowly growing sound clusters emerge into a detailed yet captivating elegy. Kersten is responsible for some of Germany’s most renowned house and techno institutions. With Dial Recordings, he launched the careers of artists like Pantha Du Prince, Efdemin and John Roberts – and not much later he started the record shop and label Smallville. Both in his club-based and listening musical work, he focuses on the deep end.

Der Klient is a DJ from Rostock with a deep passion for vinyl and a warm, analog sound. Moving seamlessly between dub, deep, and house, he crafts sets with a refined sense for atmosphere and groove – far removed from digital trends. He is best known for his long-running and highly regarded podcast Deep Afterhour, which has become a staple in the scene with nearly 400 episodes, offering a platform for profound, soulful music.

In conversation with host Andre Kronert, Der Klient comes across as a thoughtful artist with a deep-rooted love for vinyl culture – shaped by the electronic influences of the '90s. From his first gig at Interclub to his return to analog equipment and his dedicated vinyl collecting: Der Klient embodies a slowed-down, conscious approach to music. High-quality and emotional – whether at home or in the club.
