The Helsinki-based multidisciplinary artist Exmantera (Daniil Mantere, they/them) https://soundcloud.com/exmantera is one of the prominent names in the Finnish underground digital electronic scene, and they’re known for their abrasive, knife-sharp outings where crispy sound design meets clangy dramatic tension. After hosting a remix on last year’s “Ross 308 EP” by the also Finnish artist Comastasis https://paynomindtous.bandcamp.com/track/ross-308-exmantera-remix, we’re thrilled to share with you their latest work “LETHALITY” EP. 

“LETHALITY” is composed of seven tracks and comes with an eerie, obscure artwork by Exmantera and uzâ a’amo instagram.com/uzaaamo/ as well as two collaborative tracks with Nova Caine @n0vad0sed and Yaokai @yaokai. As evoked by its title, the record is unforgiving in its sonic violence, aggressive distortion, and clangorous instinctiveness. Episodes inspired by the finest instrumental grime are followed by ear-splitting bursts, metallic percussions, glitching artifacts, and sinister melodies. These raw ingredients are molded into eventful tracks that immediately capture the listener despite the unrestrained rhythmic violence, guiding them down a treacherous path of digital corrosivity. In other words, Exmantera encapsulates spectacular ferocity and immaculate bloodlust in each of the compositions, molding the elements in the ultimate sound transposition of the impulse to maw, gnaw, and kill. Within the span of a year, Tallinn-based club night series and creative collective Shelter has managed to rally dozens of electronic musicians from all corners of the world to an unexpected meeting point by the Baltic Sea. By curating club nights that showcase local talents aside some of the brightest minds in electronic music today, Shelter has undeniably played a significant role in revitalizing Tallinn’s club scene.

More importantly, Shelter uses its platform to shed light on some of the worst humanitarian crises currently plaguing our planet. Beyond covering event costs, ticket sales proceeds from Shelter Showcase events have been directed to organizations who provide resources to those in need, including the Ottawa Black Diaspora Coalition in Ukraine and the Rebuilding Alliance in Palestine.

To celebrate 1 year of building bridges between communities and incubating forward-thinking electronic music, Shelter presents Feyrûse: a compilation album featuring 17 tracks by an intercontinental melting pot of musicians, majority of whom have graced the dancefloors of Shelter.

Feyrûse aims to capture increasing unity within the global electronic music community. The musical styles represented on the album are as varied as its diverse cast of artists, ranging from purpose-built hybrid club to serene and blissful melodic rituals.

After Carlos Nilmmns enthralled us with his expressive True Chemistry EP, Circus Company is delighted to welcome a new character into the fold in the form of fast-rising German artist Borrowed Identity. Based in the Southern town of Freiburg im Breisgau, in just a few years he has already released scores of singles for labels as respected as Quintessentials, Fina, Home Taping Is Killing Music and Mistress.

The Borrowed Identity sound is direct and uncomplicated, using classic house and techno styles and applying them to dynamic arrangements that showcase a confident set of studio skills and a deep understanding of what excites the expectant dancer. Across the four tracks on the XXX EP, the perfect balance is struck between powerful rhythmic commands and psychoactive decoration, combining everything needed for a memorable club cut.

“Adictive” leaps out at the listener thanks to the sweeping piano hook and subby bassline, while “Trans Trans Trans” brings a purposefully old-school feeling with its stark square wave synth lines and sleazy vocal groans. Regular Borrowed Identity collaborator Mechanical Soul Brother lends a hand to “The Scene”, which piles on the late night tension with its tightly wound chord stabs and rolling drums, before “Life” showcases a more eclectic side to our latest signing thanks to a bongo-infused percussive throwdown and an uplifting dose of acid.

Every one of these tracks brims with infectious energy, channeling the traditions of peak-time house and techno into a thoroughly modern approach that celebrates the instant gratification of a kick-ass dancefloor weapon, without compromising on that all-important soul.
