Hyper Binary - Originals & Remix's

Jazz-o-Tech welcomes back Berlin pair Flat Maze for a second EP on the label following their Dick Dunker EP in 2018. This time they combine scintillating jazz and electronic sounds on Gran Canaria, a five tracker which includes remixes from Arnaud Le Texier and Dinamite.

This pair is made up of Italian Stefano Mori on electronics and guitar, and Tel-Aviv born Uri Gincel on piano. The former is well known in Berlin having played live and DJed with various collectives, and the latter toured the world as an in demand piano player before immersing himself in electronic music and collaborating with the likes of Mathew Herbert. Together they find a perfect sweet spot between instrumental jazz solos and deep techno drums and always take you on an escapist trip.

The opening track emerged from the beach of Los Palomas in Gran Canaria, where the sun and the wind of the dunes inspired Stefano to create the rhythm and bass, while Uri added the melancholic, Latin jazz piano line. The result is a gorgeous track that washes over you like a warm breeze as dancing keys bring real dynamism. 'Petardo Boy' featuring Sebastian Studnitsky on trumpet is inspired by an eccentric and explosive character from Berlin. It started with a melancholic riff by Uri before Stefano developed an electronic composition as wild as the personality of Petardo Boy himself. The drifting trumpet up top is romantic and late night, the drums are deep and the mood intimate. Last of all, 'Golden Cat' features a scratchy electronic riff inspired by Uri's cat. It's a textured centre piece around which pulsing drums, snapping hits and haunting jazz keys all move freely.

Arnaud Le Texier steps up to remix 'Gran Canaria' and flip sit into a slick and quick techno workout with majestic melodies and tender chords, while Dinamite flips 'Petardo Boy' into a menacing, broken beat and glitchy techno weapon for darkened warehouses.

This EP once again perfectly embodies the mission of our unique label.

The second Various Artists of the Berlin label, Lounge Squatt, showcases the artists and professionals with deep roots in the underground party scene who have collaborated with the organization in the last decade. Founded in Milan in 2010, the collective decided to move operations over to Berlin, in 2011. 

Celebrating 10 years of activity with the 10th release “Decade”, Lounge Squatt has curated a strong selection of hybrid artists that space between the most hypnotic techno like OPL, Elle, Hyper Binary, Astronomy Domine, Sub Human Bros... to the raw and harder ones created by artists like X.A.X.A, Sorcery, Diarmaid O Meara. Opening the release, there are also included an experimental track from Dj Assuti (aka Luca Torre) and a fresh edit of an exclusive track from 2002 from Patrick DSP. 

Lounge Squatt aims to deliver quality nightlife experiences, with a focus on techno & bass music - showcasing some of the finest artists in their respective genres. Not only Events Promotion, but the project also consists of a Booking Agency for the collective's artists and as Record Label, Podcast Series and Worldwide Radioshows. 

Berlin has often been touted as the techno capital of the world, but the city's music scene goes deeper than the constant “kick drum” from the most famous clubs. The German capital has always been a musically diverse place, especially for those interested in the more futuristic and experimental sounds who, in recent years, have seen a variety of styles that has taken root in many of the city's dancefloors. 

With its tenth release, Lounge Squatt shows us once again that it is distinguishing itself from Berlin clichés and remains open to new sounds and artists who have a strong sensitivity towards avant-garde music.

Barcelona based Carlos Sicrock, known to some simply as "Pasta" or "Carlitos", is a perfect example of how the Spanish and Catalonian cultures seem to produce such passionate Electro producers. Perhaps you could say it's a bit of a balance between having been right in the middle of the expansion of the sound through the 80's and 90's as many of the old school and new school artists of international fame have visited the region, not to mention the sound has always had its share of popularity with its people. But also that in some ways they have also been "cut off" from the true epicenters of this music, making them perfect spectators of the sound and culture.

With New York, Los Angeles, Miami and London being hotbeds for this sound and where the majority of the pioneers originated from, to some degree it could be said that aspiring artists and lovers of the sound in Spain and Catalonia couldn't help but observe in amazement as Electro grew to become such a global phenomenon, going on to influence music in general in so many ways, and giving them in particular a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the music that is evident in the productions to come from the region year after year.

Carlos remembers growing up in a large family that was very musically diverse, offering a broad enough palette of listening that everything from the sounds of James Brown to Pink Floyd, passing through Supertramp and Heavy Metal bands like Judas Priest would give him a very open mind to many styles of music. But none would impact him as much as the emerging sounds of Electro. He recalls, saying that: "I started listening to Electro, and from the first moment I was totally hooked. I remember the first time I heard Cybotron, specifically the "Clear" theme, [also] Hashim, Warp 9, Man Parrish, The Jonzun Crew, and Afrika Bambaataa".

He goes on to explain of a time when Afrika Bambaataa came to play at the Amnesia club in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Catalonia, and getting a chance to breakdance for him. "When they closed the album, you could break dance for them while they collected the synths and other stuff, they freaked out but I did much more. To think of all the times I had danced to the theme Looking For The Perfect Beat, Planet rock, etc., and now they were the ones congratulating me. It was something of an eternal emotion".

Since then, Carlos Sicrock continues to gain momentum as a devoted Electro artist with a keen sense of how deep this sound can go, and why it's worth every bit of blood, sweat and tears to keep digging.
