With six million views for their spectacular viral video Witch Doctor and support slots for Muse and the Rolling Stones, Dutch band De Staat remain joyfully uncategorisable. Under the wing of frontman Torre Florim, whose big voice works like a call-to-arms, they flirt with funk and tribal rhythms, introspection and wild humour, owing more to David Byrne or Prince in their musical attitude than any ordinary rock band. And fourteen years into their career, they’re about to launch their new project: (red), (yellow), (blue).

This year there will be no studio album – instead, a mammoth collection of new songs will roll out on digital platforms starting November 4th and throughout 2022. Florim has embraced his band's famous eclecticism to produce rock and roll’s first auditory art project, writing dozens of tracks reflecting the colours of red, yellow and blue. 

“We split ourselves up into three primary colours, which is the full spectrum of what we are,” he says. “For us it’s a new chapter. Like any relationship, when you’re together for such a long time you automatically start to look around and think, do we need to spice things up a bit? Dividing our songs up into three colours is a great way to challenge ourselves creatively, and everyone around us. It’s a work in progress – we’re still writing it!”

Yoann Lemoine aka Woodkid, is widely regarded as one of the most creative and exciting artists working in the contemporary music, as witnessed by his hugely acclaimed videos for Global superstars Lana Del Ray and Drake & Rihanna amongst others. Woodkid is the musical artist, the songwriter/singer/lyricist/producer, who has made this beautiful record. The visual aspect remains hugely important with Woodkid directing all his own videos and turning his live performances into a spectacle rarely seen in the world of pop music. Together with a 30-piece orchestra, he turned the venerable Le Grand Rex theatre in Paris into a place of ecstasy in front of 3,000 adoring fans last September. “When I started playing my own music, I wanted it to be as tall as a skyscraper. Images can achieve that. A really big orchestra can also achieve that.” 

This creative ambition and artistic freedom have allowed Woodkid to make such a unique sounding and powerful album as The Golden Age.  “It’s all about that time of passage between adolescence and adulthood, into that confusing hyper-reality,” Woodkid notes.

MO'WATT and J L NAVETTE are the founding members of the Blues Butcher Club. From the late nineties they  have both been  playing  in several french underground bands .  Goyokin was one of their first group ,where in 1996 they had started experimenting with their first sampler (a roland W30) and a four 4 track tape recorder . History repeats itself and  Goyokin is now back for good...
