Studio Day One
On our first day of recording we decided to use the big studio in Coombehurst lodge. For the first mix we tried we had four drum microphones, one for the bass sound of the Cajon, one for the highs and for the mids of the Cajon, and two spaced microphones on the guitar. We also isolated the instruments to minimise spillage by placing sound walls around them and in between the two. Later we found out that was wrong as we were only supposed to use two microphones in total rather than two microphones per instrument. The mixing desk in the large studio was a Mackie 24.8, which was not one we had seen before. We routed all cables as follows:
•	Microphone 1 and 2 for the Cajon, Microphone 1 being the bass microphone placed to the rear of the instrument.
•	Microphone 3 and 4 spaced for the guitar, one placed close to the middle, and one at the top end of the neck further away from the guitar facing the middle too, catching the ambience.
•	All microphones plugged into their sequential numbers on the routing box.
•	On each channel of the Mackie mixing desk we were using we set the fader to 0db.
•	We then hard panned channels’ 1 and 3 panning pots to the left, then channels’ 2 and 4 panning pots to the right.
•	We made sure the 1-2 routing buttons were pressed.
•	And also turned the gain pots up to approximately ¾ .
We were not getting any sound through to the desk and the monitors. After a while trying different methods, we decided it was the mixing desk that was the problem. We moved to the small studio and tried the same method of setup with the Toft Audio mixing desk, which worked.

Once we had got the sound coming through to the desk, monitors and pro tools, we then set to getting a good sound from the microphones without having any spillage but still keeping a good ambience to the recording. At first we had positioned the microphones too close to the instruments, we then moved them further away which gave us a better sound. We managed to get a good take that day but decided to come back again a different day to get a better take as our studio time had ended.
	Studio Day Two
	By today we had found out we could only use two microphones to create our stereo studio recording so we used two Superlux R102 ribbon condenser microphones. This time we choose to us the studio in 523 as it has good acoustics for a live stereo recording. We were going to use room 522 to record from but the walls were too reflective, the sound produced in room 523 was much dryer. Once we had setup everything as we were supposed to and started recording takes of the track, we found that one of the channels was not as loud as it should be. By process of elimination we found that channel one on the Toft Audio mixing desk was not working properly so we routed our stereo microphones through channels 5 and 6. After this we got a very good take of the recording with both channels being the same level.
