Based in Stockholm since the late 1990s, British-born Mark Seven began his obsession with the dance at now vaunted London parties such as Delirium, to a soundtrack of Soul, Funk, and Hip Hop. As Acid House took root in the capital Mark became a regular at the similarly hallowed Future and Shoom and started organizing his own events. His passion for discovery led him to journey to the U.S. and Europe to source vinyl, and has resulted in his own on-line store, JusWax. In Stockholm Mark set up the Black Lodge all-nighters, mix-tapes from which helped to alert the outside world to his knowledge and ability. 

Mark is probably one of the best selectors around and is making a journey over here next month (details of that here: http://on.fb.me/1dwxT5v). 

With that in min we thought it was high time we asked him to formulate a mix for the R$N series.

The newest edition of our mix series comes from a true legend, who has been dropping Disco and Funky House beats since the 80's. Rahaan was part of the best House parties House music's (and his own) birthplace: Chicago, where his talents brought him from the underground milieu to international clubs and events. Originating out of room 147 at the Secret Studios Annex in San Francisco, Secret Studio is the launching pad for the collaborative Dj and production efforts of Tyrel Williams & Bai-ee. 

Long time residents at www.HousepitalitySF.com, they moved into the Secret Studios Annex where they combined gear and began recording music. Soon their studio became a go-to environment for hosting acts before and after shows at Housepitality and Acid Test SF.

The result has been countless sessions, with premier artists and numerous upcoming EP's.

Hypnotic Groove Mix #112 - Debukas

Honey Soundsystem is an American creative collective that has become hugely influential in the decade since they formed. As DJs both solo and as a team, the San Fran foursome has more than made its mark with an eclectic sound that draws on the diverse backgrounds of the musicians, performers and designers involved. They also host their own parties—famed for fantastic art installations as well as carefully curated headliners from all across the musical spectrum—and run plenty of labels between them, including HNYTRX and most famously Dark Entries, which has poured many attention on Patrick Cowley with a series of resurrected releases.

Very much setting their own agenda, then, the group does just the same with their two hour mix for us. It is a fresh offering that rolls through a bouncing selection of well polished house and techno. Clean and tinged with a stylish sense of retro-futurism throughout, there are nods to darker synth wave sounds and colourful disco vibes that will keep you coming back for more.

Foxall - Mantra Pertama #1

Felix Dickinson’s story is closely linked with the story of house. He has been playing it (and making it legal to do so via his pre criminal justice act rave orchestration) since day one, has held decade long residencies in Japan and has made it under names ranging from Foolish and Sly to Bastedos. Besides working with labels like Rush Hour and DFA, he also runs his own Cynic Music and has been a key DJ  at places like Glastonbury, Garden Festival and Sonar. His style is, generally, to play music from all over the place, but he always manages to mesh them together into some thing fun and coherent. 

Over the course of 70 odd minutes here he shows off his far ranging taste and looks back as much as forward. Carefully controlled throughout, the set mixes up floor filling house with breezy grooves, chattery Chicago jack and euphoric piano anthems. It’s party starting but tastefully so and once again has you wondering who needs DJ Harvey when you have Felix Dickinson.

Scott Fraser makes up the revered group of producers that is Andrew Weatherall, Sean Johnston, Timothy Fairplay and Daniel Avery that share the same underground bunker studio in East London, affectionately calling themselves 'The Axis'. Scott's 'Life Of Silence' 12" on Weatherall's Bird Scarer imprint in our opinion was the best thing committed to vinyl in 2012, and his releases on World Unknown and Astro Lab are straight up killer. Here Scott has put together a two hour live mix which he promises contains lots of exclusives from the bunker personnel.
