"This record was written over the last two years, as I reconnected with the city I grew up in. It is named after my favourite bridge, which I have spent many good hours looking at and walking around, and the filter on my favourite synthesizer.

For me it is nostalgic and happy and sad all at once. These songs were written with the hope of reminding people that life is beautiful when they forget, as so many other songs have done for me. I have no idea what genre they fall into, but I imagine a robot made of grass when I listen to them. If “crying on the dance floor” was a genre I would pick that one.

For the most part, this record was finished in various small town libraries up and down the coast as I travelled and camped by myself at the start of the year. The fires were still burning and everywhere I went you could taste the smoke and see freshly burnt houses, yet everywhere I went, people smiled at each other as they walked down the street. I would particularly like to thank the librarians who were undoubtedly confused by my presence."

"The best part about getting to explore Sydney’s underground music scene has definitely been all the new and ridiculous music I have the privilege of being exposed to. There is no place that has challenged my definition of music and stretched my imagination further than Soft Centre. 

This song was inspired by one particular performance from the 2019 installation– local powerhouse d-grade, who completely blew my head off with the intensity of a thousand suns, all fuelled by industrial rhythms and hypnotic textures."

"This is the oldest song on the EP, and came after a long period of writer's block. I had just bought a mobile recorder and went for a walk through the park I grew up opposite as a kid (Callan park in Rozelle) and I had the time of my life recording everything and anything – from sticks to cars and planes. These were all sounds that I had heard thousands of times before, but by recording them myself I made them my own, and for the first time in what felt like an age I was inspired again. 

I distinctly remember listening back to a piano recording I had made earlier that day as I looked out over the bay and feeling a sense of intimate peace. I took a photo of the water and recorded the sound my camera made as it wound back the film, and rushed home to combine it all together. This was the first time I properly combined my own organic recordings with synthetic sounds, and it was an extremely important step for me.

Morgan Huggins - Wunderbar

'Nan & Pop' is the debut release from Sydney producer, Morgan Huggins. Clocking in at nine minutes, the track is an ode to his grandparents that takes us through their life in the country, set to the tune of an emotive dancefloor.

"I wrote this song while visiting my grandparents for a week in Forster, a coastal town they retired to after a full life in the country. Usually when I see them, it’s mixed up with the excitement of seeing my whole family, but this time it was just me and them, and we spent hours talking each day. They told me all the stories I had heard before, but I also got to hear new ones that I had no idea about, and for the first time in my life I got a sense of how many people they had helped along the way.

Nan was a primary school teacher, and she witnessed the effect that the stolen generation had on the indigenous children first hand, doing everything she could to make them feel safe in a country that was immeasurably cruel to them, but never enough. She went on to start a school for disabled students, where she was the only teacher for 10 years. She smiled as she remembered the young and bright faces of yesteryear’s students, remembering the good while recognising the injustice in the world.

Everything had a beautiful sense of nostalgia, and every night after they went to bed I stayed up and made music in the afterglow. They have been together for a long time, and it shows when they talk, as they butt in over each other and bicker about the silliest details, and that really influenced the way all the melodies interact with each other. One day I hope to look back as they do."
