QUAZAR IV is a compilation of tracks released in 1994-95 by Amsterdam’s techno act QUAZAR, a ‘best of’ of several 12-inches from that period plus a selection of tracks from the QUAZAR - Zodiac Trax album (1995).
It’s the first album in a series of rereleases that will bring the (now mostly unavailable) classic QUAZAR releases into the 21st century and on streaming platforms like Spotify.

QUAZAR made its name at the forefront of the burgeoning Amsterdam house and techno scene of the early nineties with the international succes of 12-inches like 'Seven Stars' and 'Dayglo' (1990), in quick succession followed by a string of 12-inches and three albums, 'The Spring ep' (1991),’Seven Stars' (1991) and 'Here And Now' (1993).
At the end of the 'Here And Now' tour, two bandmembers left the group: singer Farida Merville and producer/percussionist Eric Cycle.

This made the new QUAZAR  a solo project from founder Gert van Veen, with a little help from friends like Surkus (a Jamaican electronic reggae trio), Underworld-singer Karl Hyde and drummer Michel Schoots (Urban Dance Squad).

Schoots had debuted on a Quazar record with a heavy, rolling beat on the acid trance 12 inch 'Deeper and higher' (1993), which became a big international club hit, played by dj's like Sven Vath and many others.
The 12-inches on this album also did very well, especially 'North Star' (released under the alias Zodiac Trax in the spring of 1994) and 'Sunflower', featuring the voice of Karl Hyde. 
Van Veen had befriended Hyde, when Underworld performed at one of his first Welcome to the future parties in Paradiso, in April 1994. (Nowadays Welcome to the Future is one of the major dance festivals of the Dutch summer).

Quazar performed all over the world in 1994-1995, from Dutch festivals as Lowlands and Dance Valley to Australia (Melbourne, Hardware), France, the UK - London and Stratford upon Avon (Phoenix festival with Underworld) -, Prague, Budapest and Berlin (Loveparade 1995). Van Veen and his roadcrew travelled in an old Ford Scorpio, big enough to carry the group plus all the live equipment (in those pre-laptop days this meant a complete studio with synths, samplers and mixing desk.
The 94-95 tour gave QUAZAR a rougher, harder rave-sound that's reflected on the sound of the tracks of this album, partly thanks to the leading role of the Roland TB 303 in tracks like USA - United States Of Acid.

The music on QUAZAR IV was both the end of and era and a new beginning. It was the last music recorded with the Atari computer (C lab Notator) and also the last tracks recorded at the Quazar studio at the Rozengracht. 
A year later QUAZAR moved to a new Amsterdam studio, where the 1997 album 'Flightrecorder' was conceived. This also was going to be the first album to be released on the German label Superstition.
