For our debut guest mix we welcome John Paynter - local chug legend and general nice dude. John’s library is testament to his wealth of experience as a DJ. He’s a regular face behind the dials at Beatherder festival and holds a residency down at the Outlaws Yacht Club, one of our favourite local venues (go check em out). 

Paisley Dark is John’s most recent excursion; this is the community/label behind ’Shelter Me’, a mind twisting 23 track remix album donating 100% of its proceeds to charity. With such a bounty of projects it's almost impossible for us to pick a favourite! However if you twisted our arm, we'd probably say John's long running radio show ‘A Space Age Freak Out’. This continues to inspire us 5 years on from its inception, sitting close to our hearts as a shining example of our favourite scene and music.

To mark our 15th instalment in the series we have an extra special 2 hour set from Limit UK Co-Owner & resident Matthew Bowles, aka https://soundcloud.com/mezla-uk. The Limit team have been taking Leeds by storm this past year after originally starting off in Huddersfield. Their parties effortlessly create a fun & friendly vibe, with Matt and a very talented set of residents bringing the party to life. Alongside this they’ve brought in some great bookings such as Harrison BDP & Beesmunt Soundsystem, and have some big parties lined up including their Boat Party on September 3rd followed by Mak & Pasteman b2b DJ Haus on the 27th. If you’ve been to any Limit nights in the past, you’ll know these aren’t to be missed.
The noise Limit have been making hasn’t gone unnoticed, and they were brand partners for some big parties from Annie Mac and The Garden Party, and made their festival debut at El Dorado. Be sure to follow on Facebook & Souncloud to keep up to date as I’m sure the fun won’t stop there.

Label Co-Founder 'Swales' offers up his first release on the imprint with’ The House Vibe EP’. A feel good mixture of genuine house vibes guaranteed to make you move.

A1 - ‘I Can’t Let You Go’ kicks off the EP on a high with infectious vocals, brass stabs and jackin’ drums all tied together by a formidable piano arrangement.

A2 - ‘The One’ takes a sleazy turn into a flawless late night house cut. Featuring gritty Rhodes stabs and hypnotising vocals it describes the story of a personal connection to the music on the dance floor.

B1 - ‘Feel The Energy’ on the flip side ups the tempo once again and delivers the ideal combination of house and garage. Expect lush instrument licks and rolling drums perfect for any occasion.

B2 - ’Thinkin’ closes the EP. Last but most definitely not least, the track takes a decisively more mellow approach than the rest of the EP utilising chopped vocals, xylophone melodies and filtered chords. Perfect to tide you over until sunrise.

You might recognise him from the legendary Leeds function, 'Distrikt', where he resides as their in-house events planner. In addition to this Mezla also add's the holy trinity of titles to his name as an avid DJ, Producer and Promoter. Co-founding popular Leeds based club night Limit, which as of recent, just celebrated their 5th year in the scene.

Mix 12 comes from a familiar face on the Leeds scene. @friedunderground has been around the block. He’s held residencies at Distrikt, Belgrave and KMAH radio, and of course played alongside us for our LMF party with Skatebard. 

Fried’s contribution to the mix series is a sneak preview into a project which has been brewing in lockdown. His mix takes us on a much needed voyage, spanning the spiritual spectrum of down tempo acid and electronica chug.

BIO:
Mezla is an underground DJ, resident and curator for the established club night Limit, LWR in collab with Revamp and Walking Through Sound, and events planner and booker for Distrikt club in Leeds.

In the short 5 years he has been djing, he has built a solid name for himself and his brand Limit, through a keen eye to detail and curation of parties and bringing a high energy ride to every night and set put in front of him. His sets usually weave between different realms of house & techno, breaks, acid, leftfield, garage, disco, italo to slow chuggers and trippy rave music. His versatility is unmatched by few and this shows given the range of huge international DJs he has supported through Limit and other shows up and down the country. 

For over 3 years Limit has been a regular fixture at El Dorado Festival, Inner City Electronic Festival and The Garden Party, including sets at Annie Macs Tour, Mint Festival. Noteable artists to have played with Mezla include Dan Ghenacia, Sonja Moonear, Axel Boman, Lauer, Leon Vynehall,  Roman Flugel, Denis Sulta, James Zabiela, Saoirse, Jasper James & Many More.

With the release of his first EP with Sammy (Rowland) receiving great response and hype, this is just the start for mezla journey with a 2nd EP on the way and tons of personal projects in the works to explore the different styles he creates. plus huge shows still to come in the new year with limit and elsewhere.

Welcome to the LS:MIX series, showcasing both local DJs & upcoming talent from across the country. and around the world! We ask each guest DJ to curate an hour long mix to demonstrate their technical ability & give us an insight to their music library. With no limits on genre expect a wide variety of tunes! 

From the success of the mix series we have moved on to hosting events at the likes of Wire, Beaverworks & The Old Red Bus Station. We have maintained our theme of showcasing upcoming talent whilst reaching out to more prestigious selectors to bring their sound to Leeds.
