Bio:

Cypriot born producer Alexandre Pavlou aka Phaction’s passion for music was founded through a love of drumming from an early age. He moved to Bristol in 2007 where his growing fascination for Drum and Bass music was catalysed by the diverse vibe and nightlife of the city. After learning to mix and playing out live with high energy sets he began craving a new challenge and sought a different medium through which to express his creativity.

His journey into music production began in 2013. Inspired by the sounds of the city and music all around him, his love ranges widely from classical and jazz through to film scores and even metal, which have become intrinsic in the vibe of his productions.

The up and coming producer has collaborated with the likes of GLXY, Hugh Hardie, as well as exceptional vocal talents such as Leo Wood, Charli Brix & Riya. After hearing his work, Total Science signed his music to their legendary imprint CIA, culminating in a 5 track EP that gained support from the likes of Goldie, Lenzman, Halogenix, DJ Marky and Foreign Concept.

His debut EP 'Hard Truth' on Metalheadz gained wide DJ support, with Aviatrix ft. Riya being picked up by Adidas to promote their latest Spezial clothing range.

'A new name to some, but already turning the heads of many distinguished tastemakers – it’s time to get to know about Phaction. Having only been producing for a year or two, his ideas and sound belie this fact, showing a maturity and class that takes others years to develop. His love for soul, hip-hop, RnB, funk and a variety of music shine through on his tracks, making him a perfect fit for the CIA stable.

His ‘Signature Moves EP’ is comprised of five brand new tracks, honed to perfection over the last couple of months in his Bristol studio. They showcase his ability to build meaningful musical hooks, eek out beautiful performances from vocalists and envisage, develop and finish complex yet catchy tracks that have a weight and finish to them that will make these tracks ones to keep coming back to again and again.'

Nu:Tone is a name that automatically populates in a seasoned drum & bass brain upon hearing the words Hospital Records. But Nu:Tone’s first drum and bass release was actually put out in 2001 on John B’s label Beta Recordings after the pair became friends and established the local club night ‘Substance’ in Durham.  On returning to his hometown Cambridge, Nu:Tone met a squad of like-minded musical mates and eventually released the ‘Future Sound of Cambridge’ EP on Hospital in 2004.

With five solo studio albums to boast as well as a wealth of singles, and EP’s, Nu:Tone’s tracks can always be heard across dancefloors and the festival circuit. From his first studio album “Brave Nu World” to third studio album “Words and Pictures” (which was perhaps his most ambitious project) and all before, in-between and after, Nu:Tone’s output always gleans the full support of the wider dance music community’s biggest tastemakers from Annie Mac and Rene La Vice to Toddla T and David Rodigan. Nu:Tone regularly tours Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, confirming his global appeal. 

Nu:Tone can also be heard as part of other collaborative projects, like Nu:Logic, the Hospital Records signed sibling duo of him and Logistics. Or as part of Danism, under which he releases house with great success. Danism’s track “No Limits’ reached number one on the Traxsource chart in 2019 and received DJ support from house royalty Louie Vega, Danny Krivit and Todd Terry. 

Having a keen ear for other people’s music is something that we see from Nu:Tone in a multitude of projects. While working for Hospital as part of the A&R team, he also continues to work as a mastering engineer for Innerground, Spearhead and Soulvent Records. He fondly states an annual highlight for him is the stage he curates with Logistics at Sardinia’s famous Sun & Bass festival each year, and it’s clearly something he enjoys as he’s been back every year since 2003 (except one year when his eldest was born!)
