Defected is proud to revisit the legendary Todd Edwards catalogue with the fourth instalment of his House Masters Remixes, adding Majestic, Harry Romero, Soul Clap and Jay Robinson to the impeccable collection of house and garage artistry. Released in 2021, Todd’s original compilation demonstrated his approach to experimentation in its full glory; his entirely new sound, born from chopped up samples and vocal clips, helped birth the UK Garage genre while giving the American-born producer major underground credibility. Ever since those pioneering releases in the 90s, Todd has continued to inspire artists around the world, artists like Alex Mills whose glossy vocals feature on the new release spearheading the collection, ‘Wishing I Were Home’. This unreleased original shows Todd’s signature skippy style in full-flow, also receiving a remix from Platinum-selling producer Majestic, whose old skool influences blend with bassline-heavy house for an uplifting take on the new classic. Next up, fellow Defected House Master Harry Romero adds a New Jersey bounce to Todd’s vocoder-heavy ‘I Might Be’, before experimental production duo Soul Clap deliver two club remixes of ‘Winter Behavior’. DJ and producer Jay Robinson’s synth-laden version of ‘Can’t You Believe?’ closes out this bold collection of house and garage mainstays.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Defected Records presents a series of extra special collaborative releases Together, integrating talent from the label’s storied past and the stars of its future, as legendary UKG pioneer Todd Edwards, Caribbean-Dutch duo Shermanology and UK band Rudimental come together for ‘Rain’. The three artists are household names in their own right, and now their ongoing friendship has resulted in this extra special record born out of ‘a place of love’. Todd’s history with Defected is well documented, and the relationship has grown exponentially since the acquisition of his back catalogue in 2021, decorated by frequent sets at the label’s landmark events and flagship festivals, culminating in a Deluxe Edition of his House Masters compilation featuring remixes from modern house and garage legends. One such remix includes Andy and Dorothy Sherman as Shermanology, with their hearty mix of UKG, Caribbean and soul influences permeating Todd’s ‘Show Me A Sign’. The duo made their highly anticipated Defected debut in 2023 with ‘Sometimes’, a record that received major radio play globally and soundtracked the summer that followed. They are joined by Rudimental, the Platinum selling band whose success in both underground and commercial scenes is widely respected, earning UK #1’s and showcasing their new era sound; the group first teased this collaboration at Defected’s ambitious 2024 livestream celebrating its 25th Anniversary, featuring 25 DJs playing B2B. Throughout the bright and uplifting release, ‘Rain’, Todd’s unmistakeable signature sound blends with Shermanology’s joyous vocals and production plus Rudimental’s underground electronic style for a match made in heaven; a seminal release in the Defected catalogue and a triumph of its recently launched Together series.

This mix is my tribute to the sound that once lit up dance floors around the world. A musical journey into sun-drenched Italy of the early ’90s, the golden era of Italo House.

A five-hour trip through warm (Deep) House and Garage, classic Italian Latino/Ambient House, the occasional ‘piano screamer’, closing off with the more progressive  Italian Techno sound.

I put a lot of time into the preparation: selecting the music, recording and cleaning up the 12-inches for the best possible sound quality. Then came the mixing process, weaving together over 70 tracks into one five-hour musical journey. All in all, a months-long project I worked on with joy, love and dedication.

Enjoy the ride, and hopefully this mix takes you back to the warm, Mediterranean sound of the golden era of Italo House: 1990-1993. A quietly influential genre that continues to inspire new generations.

Questo mix è il mio omaggio al sound che, un tempo, accendeva le piste da ballo di tutto il mondo. Un viaggio musicale nell’Italia baciata dal sole dei primi anni ’90: l’epoca d’oro dell’Italo House.

Un viaggio di cinque ore attraverso la calda Deep House e Garage, la classica Latino/Ambient House italiana, con qualche immancabile “piano screamer” (come direbbero in Inghilterra), e un finale più progressivo, firmato Italian Techno.

Ho dedicato moltissimo tempo alla preparazione: la selezione musicale, la registrazione e la pulizia dei 12" per ottenere la miglior qualità sonora possibile.
Poi è arrivata la fase del mixaggio: oltre 70 tracce intrecciate in un’unica storia musicale lunga cinque ore. Un progetto durato mesi, realizzato con gioia, passione e dedizione.

Buon ascolto! Spero che questo viaggio ti riporti al suono caldo e mediterraneo dell’epoca d’oro dell’Italo House: 1990-1993.
Un genere, spesso sottovalutato, che ancora oggi continua a ispirare nuove generazioni.

Started releasing the tracks since 2020. The main focus is on house and garage styles, although other styles are met too, hence is described as a "style widespectral".
